Convenience since there is one near every major street corner, every major shopping center, and every airport in the US.
Most of my life I was a cowboy, construction worker, etc - I didn't mind going in public during/after working... But I would go places where such folks are common... Blue collar diners, hamburger stands, and etc...
The fault here is walking into a Starbucks, where pampered pussies rule the day. Go where working folks go, and a little stink ain't nothing new, or remarkable... Except for pig farmers, of course : )
And btw, there ain't nothing better than a working cowgirl... Worn out jeans, sh*tkickers, and leather gloves... sweat glistening wherever her skin shows... It speaks to the quality of the woman - Those clothes don't get worn out any other way... The only thing better is when she changes out to go out on the weekend, dressed to the 9's, just for you... All that steel in such a soft, beautiful package...
Or a country gal sweating in the kitchen, baking up pies and bread, or canning for the winter... Beautiful.
I disagree with the premise of the article, as it is largely the cost of an over-primped citified culture. I've got no problem with a sweating woman - No problem at all: It just means she's real.

Maybe the woman was just being friendly and striking up conversation?
Or maybe the encounter didn’t happen at all and the author just wants some attention. All the cool people are victims right?
IMO there’s an attitude of superiority among those who work out or run/bike instead of driving places. I work in a fine dining establishment and recently waited on a couple who biked from a neighboring town. While they didn’t smell like sweat, a rather off putting smell of warm body hung around their table. It was enough that I got annoyed every time I had to go to their table.
Good grief. Must others smell you so they can know how morally superior you are for sweating to save the planet? Of all places, one in which others are paying to eat should be a blatantly obvious place to avoid when dripping with sweat.
I wondered if maybe the offender was a friendly American but if that were the case, the author wouldn’t have passed up an opportunity to mention the accent and America-shame.
I doubt it even happened anyway. Author just wants the spotlight.
I usually just hug the person who makes fun of the sweat...

This woman's ego is too fragile for her to go out in public. Maybe the other person was also into fitness and just wanted to strike up a conversation while on line.
I'm not a runner, but I am a cyclist. I frequently walk into convenience stores, delis, Dunkin' Donuts, etc., to pick up some cold water to refill my water bottles. Oftentimes completely drenched. If someone made some innocuous comment, I wouldn't run out of there with my tail between my legs.
These people are what we would call in my old neighborhood, MENTAL.

What kind of moron would be shamed or embarrassed by this comment? It’s not like exercise and fitness pursuits are abnormal in Western culture. Exercising, wearing exercise clothes in public, etc. are completely acceptable in any non-formal setting (coffee shop, grocery store, most other stores).

Sweaty people have rights too. When I work up a good sweat in the hot boiling sun I sweat. Horses sweat, men perspire, and women glow. I sweat all over tables,chairs, floors even sweat on you. That is my right. I feel like a second class citizen when others make snide commemts about my sweat.The fundamental liberties protected by the Fourteenth Amendment’s Due Process Clause extend to certain personal choices central to individual dignity and autonomy, including intimate choices defining personal identity and beliefs.
