A Virginia mother who ordered a toy sword for her son's seventh birthday got more than she bargained for when she discovered hundreds of rounds of ammunition inside the Toys R Us package.
[I] didn't know what to do! I was just completely in shock, recalled Yasemin Stephenson in an interview with 13NewsNow. What if my son had opened the box?
Stephenson, who lives in Virginia Beach and works in the health care field, went on Toys R Us website last week to order presents for her son Connors upcoming birthday, including a Minecraft Foam Diamond Sword.
The popular toy retails on the site for $19.99 and has a four-star rating from customers.
The order was delivered to Stephensons home on Tuesday, and the mom noted that it was surprisingly heavy. When she opened the cardboard shipping crate, she quickly discovered why: inside there were 16 boxes containing 50 rounds of ammunition each for a 9mm Luger handgun...

Sorry we’re out of Minecraft foam swords , but
19.99 for 800 rounds of ammo and a foam sword? That’s a bargain shoppers dream!!
We ordered from Amazon once and received 12 boxed of tea. Ammo would have been better
Oh fer God’s sakes. So what if her son HAD opened the box?? What does she imagined would have happened. Some people just have to make a big deal out of everything. Must be starving for attention and addicted to drama
This person is actually allowed to vote. She’s worried about the ammo, and what would have happened had her son had opened it.
Nothing? I guess he could have eaten it. Without the gun part, the ammo’s not that dangerous. I guess he could try to cook it in the microwave, or build a campfire with it. Use it as a suppository. Shove it up his nose.
Just wow.
That should certainly boost the sale of toy swords.
Ammo laundering for terrorists through a toy company?
Oh, I know that; half my 9mm purchases say 9mm Luger, the other half say 9mm Parabellum. It’s obvious the person writing this story did NOT know that. Surprised the writer didn’t say “for a 9mm Luger handgun assault rifle AK-47.”
Well . . . I guess he would have seen some bullets.
I just ordered two crates of foam swords.
I agree, this is BS for many reasons. The dimensions of the supposed shipping box and the weight of the ammo would have cost a fortune to ship. No way that crap box or the ammo came from Toys-R-Us.
She doesn't give a damn about her kid opening the box.
The drama is for the lawsuit.
ToysRUs is deep pockets.
Last time I ordered a weapon on line, it said “ammo not included”. Dang.
Maybe this lady ordered from Big Boys Toys R Us.
Point well taken... I thought I detected a bit of sarcasm in your previous post, but wasn’t 100% certain.
That might make a more interesting story.
I wish someone would screw up an order and send me several hundred rounds of ammo instead of a $19 toy.
cool!
WOW I thought it fell out of your boat!
Where did she order this from, and do they take credit cards?
Now if only somebody could tell me the difference (if there is any) between 9mm Luger and 9mm Parabellum...
