So what do you make of 1 Cor 12?

The church is the “army” of JESUS, the CHRIST.

But the church does not BRING salvation; the church is the saved joining together (willingly, as GOD’s children, out of love) to “work out their salvation”.

But that outworking, again, is not for the purpose of gaining salvation. We are saved, by grace, through faith (and not by works, so that no man can boast).
