Was just wondering, in the last 4-5 days in southeast Wisconsin the gas prices have shot up about 80 cents from where they were on the weekend.
Anyone else notice the big spike up around where they are?
Usually there's some refinery problem in the news, or something specific in the middle east but I haven't heard anything I can kind of associate this with. We arent in a seasonal gas blend change time period either.
Mods, if title can be adjusted to Gas, not As, I’d appreciate.
Yes. It happened everywhere. I heard that BP had some sort of supply disruption that caused the spike.
As of 10:00 a.m. Eastern, when I was coming home from the gym in Monroe, NC, the price at the QT was down a cent from the beginning of the week, and down about 5 cents in the last month.
We were also talking about this today. WTH is going on?
$1.87 in Rock Hill, SC.
It’s all over the news. problem with a refinery in IN. How could you not of heard or read about it ?
Apparently there is a big refinery that is having problems, which is affecting supply in the Midwest.
BP Whiting is down
Unfortunately many of the smaller refineries have been closed due to EPA pressure (like Marathon Rock Island in Indianapolis) so when Whiting goes down, the whole great lakes area is screwed.
A refinery in Indiana went off line and will be off line for about 60 days prompting an immediate spike of roughly $0.70 in the upper midwest.
I dont watch the news and generally look for things here and a few other places. Been usier than normal with some family medical issue and just didnt see it. Thanks for the heads up.
Normally in the past this stuff precluded some military action goung on over in the mideast, I was just hoping Obama wasn’t up to something major there because whatever it would be wouldn’t end well for our guys.
Gas has decreased in my area, but there is a huge difference between Gas purchased just off the Interstate vs Gas purchased from my local station.
I paid $2.19/g at Sams Club yesterday.
$2.91 for Premium at Sam’s in Denver, Wed.
Yeah i never purchaee right off the freeway. I have a station right near my house which is an independent shop that almost always has the lowest prices in my area.
There was a recent glitch at Whiting, IN refinery impacting consumers in the upper Midwest.
Prices still dropping in Toms River NJ. Latest is $2.25 gal reg.
$2.25 and falling here in northern North Carolina. There’s a refinery problem in Indiana affecting gas price in the upper midwest, or so I understand.
There *was* a big refinery issue (meaning breakdown, shutdown) this past week in the Midwest, was there not (didn’t pay much attention, caught it just out of the corner of my eye)
EIGHTY CENTS? That’s hugh. And series.
They are reporting this on Bloomberg radio as I type this.
There is also a seasonal changeover going on vis a vis summer v winter blends.
Like Bloomberg or not, Bloomberg radio is absolutely excellent for intraday business news. They always seem to touch on the important stuff and spend just the right amount of time per topic.
How convenient, and it seems to happen every year around this time. Flyover getting the ram job again.
