Males tend to be a little more needy, but if you don’t mind that....

As someone else mentioned, you can try out a dog to see if the fit is right. Of course, it can take weeks or months for the adjustment for Jackie since she is traumatized.

An alpha male may make her feel more secure. Some of her energy will be used in trying to fit in with the new pack leader. Since she’s beta she should not feel threatened or jealous. She might be jealous of a puppy.

They should be fed separately. The alpha dog should get fed first, treats first, etc. to establish his role.
