If man was truly created in God’s image and likeness, then I find it highly unlikely that there are other sentient beings out there with the same free well as the human race.
The Bible does say the wise men came in one Accord.
Oh,I don’t know.He might have a million creations going on out there-all similar to our own.
Yep, the entire Universe is just one big Coincidence.
If you look at our own planet, life has infested nearly every square inch of it.
...
Really?
What’s the ratio of wet biomass to mass of the Earth?
Refers to Macbeth..act 2 scene 4 I think:”Ah, good father,
Thou seest, the heavens, as troubled with man’s act,
Threaten his bloody stage: by the clock, ‘tis day,
And yet dark night strangles the travelling lamp:
Is’t night’s predominance, or the day’s shame,
That darkness does the face of earth entomb,
When living light should kiss it?
If they find oxygen in the atmosphere that’s pretty strong evidence of life.
So what? Where in the Bible does it say that God only made one creation, once in one planet?
I think some would argue sapience itself could be an attribute of God’s image. Sapience is part of the human form, as the human brain has the ability to think and reason? Therefore anything that had sapience and had the gift of reason would also have at least that one aspect, if not any physical likeness?
Freegards
Indeed, evidence of both the vastness of the Universe, and the common natural laws that persist over that incredible vastness, is one of the most powerful indicators of a divine presence, vastly beyond the realm of anything that the Huffington Post staff or writers is likely ever to comprehend.
Posting drivel of this sort, may or may not invite something very unpleasant for Mrs. Huffington--but then those who are deliberately taking America down the road to Sodom & its sister city do not have the sense to appreciate that they cannot redefine reality.
Much of what has been misdefined as "progress" since 1900 is a half-baked effort to redefine & even legislate a new reality.
If life is common in the Universe, that supports the idea of God. How else could life happen in such disparate environments?
Amazing how trash like this revels in his blasphemy.
Thanks for helping me learn a new term. Cool!
One of the great things about FR is how much I learn from smart FReepers.
Pierre Duhem and then later Stanley Jaki, both physicists and historians of science, investigated and wrote extensively on the development of modern science by Christian monks in the Middle Ages.
This history is unknown to or ignored by the high priests of scientism, that foolish school of thought that wishes to believe that the modern scientific method invented itself, is self-defining, and also comprises the sum total of human knowledge.
The fact that their claim itself arises out of epistemology and not the scientific method makes their quaint belief in ‘science’ all the more amusing. No one can escape the need to appeal to epistemology, not even those who are convinced that they stick to ‘science’ in everything that they do.
I think Kurt Goedel demonstrated that there are no closed, self-defining systems. Everything, including the scientific method, borrows axioms from outside its own system.
“but the problem religion is facing is adapting to our ever growing understanding of the Universe. “
Astrophysicist Fred Hoyle coined the term ‘the Big Bang’ in order to ridicule the idea of an explosive beginning to the universes; Hoyle himself being an adherent of the steady state theory.
One big reason that Hoyle rejected the Big Bang is because he thought that it bears an eerie resemblance to the opening lines of Genesis.
Would the Huffing-and-Puffington Post ever headline a story as bad news for Muhammad?
“... it bears an eerie resemblance to the opening lines of Genesis.”
No SH_T Sherlock ..!!!!! (Poor Mr. Hoyle)
Watch the video “Privileged Planet” and it will show how the earth is purposefully placed in order to be able to EXPLORE THE UNIVERSE.
Hmmmmm ..?? I guess GOD is not stupid after all.
I believe that everything in the universe is there in some way that supports having life on Earth, in ways that we will never fully understand. Think about everything that has to be just the way it is for life to exist on this planet: the distance from the Sun, the distance of the Moon to support tides and other weather, etc.
He was talking about square inches not cubic inches. :-)
