Sheila Jackson Lee
Member of the U.S. House
of Representatives
from Texas's 18th district

On a visit to the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in 2005, Jackson Lee made embarrassing news by asking if the Mars Pathfinder had taken an image of the flag planted there in 1969 by Neil Armstrong.[2]

Prior to the 110th Congress, Jackson Lee served on the House Science Committee and on the Subcommittee that oversees space policy and NASA.

(Note: the Wiki page on this has changed somewhat since I copied this from there. However, you can find the info easily elsewhere)

July 20, 1969

Seems like the day before yesterday. I'm getting old.

The Mihailovich Monument in DC was the brainchild of the late American patriot David Martin (Canadian AF, Sen. Dodd’s top foreign policy aide; Senate Internal Security Subcommittee, Sen. Judiciary Comm.; Council Against Communist Aggression; Accuracy in Media; McDowell Luncheon Group; and friend).

It was put into reality by the great work of Lee Edwards, a friend of Dave’s and McDowell Luncheon Group member - the Group was the DC voice of the “Council Against Communist Aggression” led by the funny, smart as a whip liberal labor leader Marx (as in Karl) Lewis, who had a cigar as long as your arm and a heart as big as gold. Another in the long list of patriots in the McDowell Luncheon Group.

Long Live the Empress Restaurant!

Listened to the Apollo 11 broadcast from the Moon in a command bunker while attached to Lima Co, 3rd Battalion, 26th Marines. The company was guarding the Namo Bridge on Highway 1 just north of Da Nang, RVN at the time.

Though there was no celebration where we were, we were proud of America’s accomplishment. Despite our problems at home and in the world, we seemed poised on the cusp of many wonderful possibilities.

These many years later, America is still knocking the ball out of the park with our space faring accomplishments; the New Horizons flyby of Pluto last week being just the latest example. As for those problems at home and abroad, well, a powerful lot of work still needs to be done.

I watched the moon landing from the streets of Belgrade in the display window of the Robna Kuča department store. I'll never forget it! Everyone was looking in the window and I wondered what everyone was looking at!
