Will Team Obama-Boehner-McConnell Get TPA Through Congress?
The New American ^ | 19 June 2015 | William F. Jasper

Posted on 06/19/2015 6:37:41 PM PDT by VitacoreVision

The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday passed Trade Promotion Authority (TPA, better known as Fast Track) giving President Obama what Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) admitted is “an enormous grant of power, obviously, from a Republican Congress to a Democratic president.”

Following a week of high-pressure arm-twisting by President Obama, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), the House passed the increasingly unpopular TPA bill by a vote of 218-208, with 28 Democrats jumping on the mostly-Republican pseudo “free trade” bandwagon.

This was the second time in less than a week that the House voted to approve the TPA bill that would give the president authority to rush his ObamaTrade trifecta of secret treaties — Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), and Trade In Services Agreement (TISA) — through Congress without the required checks and balances. On Friday, June 12, with a very similar bi-partisan coalition, the House voted 219-211 in favor of fast-track. However, on June 12, the House GOP leadership separated the TPA bill from another measure known as Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) that provides aid to those whose jobs are killed by trade. The latter was defeated.

Since the Senate had passed the TPA with the TAA attached, the House needed to pass both the TPA and TAA. House Democrats have historically favored TAA, but they joined with “rebel” Republicans on June 12 to vote down TAA in an attempt to kill Fast Track. Boehner and the GOP House leadership began taking immediate retribution  against those Republican House members who had dared to cross Team Obama-Boehner by opposing the TPA and the secrecy that has exemplified the entire TPP/TTIP/TISA process.

Now the House version of the TPA must go back to the Senate, and President Obama and his Republican allies must convince enough Democrats to support a stand-alone TPA, with the promise that they will offer a TAA bill once TPA is passed. The political logrolling will now intensify, as Team Obama-McConnell turn up the heat to gain the votes they need. Undoubtedly, a lot of money will also exchange hands. As The New American reported the corporatist elites pushing the TPP/TTIP/TISA schemes, in essence, bought their Senate TPA votes with campaign donations, and most assuredly will duplicate those bribes, if needed, for a second TPA vote. A review of House campaign finance records will very likely show a similar pattern of bribery for the TPA votes.

Well, I still say: “Will Team Obama-Boehner-McConnell-Pelosi Get TPA Through Congress? Yes they will!”

Pelosi wants more and ‘the team’ figure after TPA is passed the recalcitrant Members will pass TAA- TAA + more goodies.
How could they deny aid to the workers who will be hurt by the agreement?

It’s been interesting Kabuki. The cronies DO put on a good show.
Kudos to the growing House Freedom Caucus and to the good conservatives who sacrificed their party positions to vote against the rule.
The crony RINO-Dem cabal has been weakened though they won this battle.

Reagan’s trade agreement with Canada was the last good trade treaty.
TPA is a tool like a hammer. In the right hands it is constructive, in the wrong hands destructive.

The Dems have set up all these greedy Stupid party GOP crooks like Cruz, Rubio , bonehead, Mitchy , and Ryan for a 2016 election blood bath .
First, the Dem Senators filibustered the deal and get great press for it.
K street whores Cruz and Ryan spit out a WSJ Op-ed that looks like its ghost written by Goldman Sachs !
Dem congress kill the TPA-TPP treason treaty and get more great press!
The utterly corrupt amiral K street whore party votes to empower the most dangerous anti American hater ever to have unlimited power over a open treaty !

The Bonehead, Ryan , Cruz and Mitchy party is screwed by screwing over whats left of the US middle class .

Even Comrade Hillary has backed away from this Treason Treaty

Pres VJ will leak the utterly treasonous sections of this treaty treason throughout the 2016 campaign and the Gop will wiped out.

The TV commercial ads will be devastating.

...Dem congress kill the TPA-TPP treason treaty...

TPA isn't a treaty and TPP wouldn't be one either if passed. Quibbling differencces, but factual.

That's the whole reason TPA was passed...the Senate wants to shirk their Constitutional duty and not have TPP, and the other trade bills as well, come up as treaties.

Strange, I have been thinking along those same lines. The Republicans will probably lose both houses. But, they are tools to be used; they don’t care.

The Duplicitous Party (i.e., “Democrat Lite”) has concluded it takes much less effort to crush conservatives and conservatism than it does to defend the Constitution. To the leaders of the Duplicitous Party (and to far too many of its caucus), political expediency rules the day ... honor, integrity, honesty and those other outdated personal traits are important only when convenient.

The Constitution requires that 66% of the Senate approve any treaty (and amendments are allowed).

With this fast track or trade promotion Authority bill they want to lower it to 51% and no amendments and only 60 days to pass a bill. that’s a dictatorship and the end of America. Obama can basically rewrite USA laws as treaties override USA laws.

It would be ridiculously easy to pass a treaty with only a 51% up or down vote , no debates and no amendments and only 60 days to pass it as the people wouldn’t have enough time to get the message to their representatives.

This is unconstitutional. We want amendments that could kill a bad bill as the Constitution allows. We want 66% approval not 51% .Call Congress . Tell them to vote no on TPA (Trade promotion authority).

That was then, this is now. We had communism on the run. Now the left has had 30 years to propagandize our youth and push the agenda. Now we have Marxist operatives in our White House. Our house! We can’t live on Reagan forever. We can honor his legacy, but just because something was relevant 30 years ago, doesn’t mean it’s relevant now.

The point is that conservatives have supported free trade while liberals have been protectionist.
We live in a world where Walmart is opening 115 new stores in communist China between now and 2017.

[The point is that conservatives have supported free trade while liberals have been protectionist.]

And look where that’s gotten us. “Free trade” ain’t “free” the way we’ve been doing it in the last 3 decades. Deals are negotiated to give every other country an advantage over the US (to assuage progressive liberal guilt) and no consequences for copyright or patent infringement, slave labor produced goods, or blatant cheating. Beyond that, because of TPA’s many of these deals have been negotiated by progressive administrations and passage by the Senate becomes little more than a formality.

How else do you get foreign countries to come closer to our standards if not through trade agreements?
