Help With Virus/Malware (Vanity)

Posted on 06/10/2015 5:10:39 PM PDT by Portcall24

My wife got a new computer and somehow she has picked up 7769domain virus. I ran Malwarebytes to no avail. It's still there. Searching a couple of places like Spyhunter and others offer help but I'm not sure if they are legit. Sure could use some help.

Get a new HD, load it with the sw to make the computer work and software to lock the computer down before connecting to any network.

I can personally guarantee successful removal of any PC malware if you take the following steps EXACTLY:

1. Go to MajorGeeks.com

2. Do exactly what they tell you to do.

As an aside, this site is really cool for scanning files and websites before installing software from them

https://www.virustotal.com/

You can put in the link and it checks a lot of online virus scanners. You can also upload files to it to scan. It’s a really good site to bookmark.

Do you have 2 computers?

Typically, on a tough malware infection, I’ll just yank the drive out, stick it in a different computer and run Malwarebytes against it. That usually breaks the malware enough that you can insert it back in the original computer and run another Malware bytes scan against it (this will remove the start points in the registry.

Next, I’d run combofix http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/combofix/ which will get most other difficult malware. There are also some rootkit scans that can be run, but if you do the above that clears it most of the time.

For good measure I’ll run autoruns https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx and look for any entries without publishers and delete them.

There ar literally dozens of websites that offer step by step removal procedures for the 7769domain virus. I don’t mean to sound mean, but if you don’t know how to use a web browser and the internet to look up something as simple as this, then perhaps you should stay away from computers.

This type of thing happened to me.

The only way I could get it removed was to reboot the computer in “safe mode” and run Malwarebytes from there.
