Most houses of Jewish worship fly a flag of Israel and support the Jewish State. On Thursday, July 11, Temple Beth Am in Seattle is hosting a program that is hostile to the State of Israel and the Israel Defense Forces. We are calling on anyone who cares about Israel to let them know exactly how you feel.
Temple Beth Am is hosting a program from the extremist organization, Breaking the Silence, which travels the world undermining Israel with the help of the New Israel Fund.
As the Jerusalem Post reported today, about this exhibit during is stop in Switzerland: Swiss politicians say the countrys Foreign Ministry misused public funds to finance a hate-filled exhibit targeting the Jewish state.
We condemn sharply the sponsorship of Breaking the Silence, with public monies through the EDA [Swiss Foreign Ministry] and the Zurich Finance Department, and expect in future a careful examination of projects and those organizations standing behind such projects before Swiss taxpayer money is misused, 10 Swiss MPs from the parliamentary Swiss-Israel parliamentary group said in a statement dated Tuesday.
Disinformation and the political ideology of hatred are being directed against the Jewish state and, of all things, it is shameful that Switzerland, on whose soil the nucleus of peaceful political Zionism developed in Basel [at the First Zionist Congress in 1897], is participating in such activities, they continued This should never be allowed to happen again, the lawmakers said. They called on the EDA and the Zurich Finance Department to publicly distance themselves from the Breaking the Silence exhibit and make clear their positions to Israel.
The general secretary of the Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities, representing the countrys 18,000 Jews, told The Jerusalem Post, We think this exhibition is one-sided because we are missing the official Israeli position of the IDF and the government, but at least we know that there are some Jewish voices participating in the panel [discussion] which will take a pro-Israeli or pro-Jewish side that makes it a little bit less one-sided. We cant understand why the Swiss government is supporting this.
According to an analysis by the Jerusalem-based NGO Monitor organization, BtS [Breaking the Silence] makes sweeping accusations based on anecdotal, anonymous and unverifiable testimonies of low level soldiers. These testimonies lack context, ignoring the fact that during the 2014 Gaza war heavy fighting took place between Israel and terror groups in Gaza, and that soldiers faced grave danger throughout the conflict from rockets, mortar shells, and terrorists emerging from tunnels dug beneath private homes. These distortions and erasures dovetail with BtSs ideological agenda and fuel delegitimization campaigns against Israel.
The government of Israel has condemned Breaking the Silence and called for them to be shunned from the Jewish community. Yet, The New Israel Fund and Breaking the Silence are supported by Temple Beth Am in Seattle.
The board of this organization, including President Bryan Rutberg, Michael Berman, Shelly F. Cohen, Gaby Charlton, Marc Mayo, A.J. Merrick, Leslie Deitz Kaplan, Jeremiah Isgur, Heidi Turner and others must be condemned for standing against Israel.

There is no discussion to be had about an organization that encourages Israeli soldiers to be prosecuted as war criminals.
Prime candidates for the cattle car.
Nothing worse than self-loathing Jews pitching in to hate themselves...it’s no wonder the Jews invented Psychoanalysis...
or why not take it to it’s logical conclusion and have the entire congregation perform a HAMAS style suicide attack on themselves and be done with it. You don’t want to survive?, do yourselves in but leave the rest of us alone...
Dear FReepers, if you see, “Temple Beth...” in the “synagogue’s” title, know you are reading about a reform or otherwise non-Orthodox congregation. They will fit the classical American leftist model in every way.
I attended that wannabe synagogue once...only once.
Every synagogue is an independent congregation which usually affiliates with a national association representing orthodox, conservative, or reform. There are no hierarchical churches and no central authority like in Christianity. A congregation is usually governed by a board of directors who hire a cantor and rabbi.
In flight school (San Antonio) I wanted to continue doing Jewish things.... (Temple Beth Am bar mitzvah, “confirmation” (oy vey) and Jewish Midshipmen Club....) so I looked up “temple” in the phone book. Finding nothing I thought, “Ah, I’ll check ‘synagogue.’” I found one, drove up in my sport car one bright and what I thought was early, fine Saturday morning...only to find a full parking lot. Hmmm.... Door was locked at 8 am... Then not-Jewish-looking fella comes over and unlocks door and deactivates the alarm... my spidey sense was tingling at this point. I walked in first and soon after bearded, yarmulka wearing (full-time yarmulka-wearing) Yidden walk in. To my horror! OH NO! I chose an orthodox shul by mistake!!!! Thus began, with fits and starts, my path to observance.
Now I guess I know why. I don't know what Seattle is like, I hope not everyone is like that :P
Phinneous, Your Path to Observance is fascinating, you want to continue your story?
I’ve heard of it. It’s creepy. Temple Beth is lost and misguided.
Well, let’s just say the women like to wear kippot and tallitot.
After one fit, and before the next start, my sister, who had run off to seminary in Jerusalem, came to visit me in Naples, Italy. I bought new pots for her, being savvy, I though, in kashrus (the laws of kosher.)
“We have to toivel it,” (immerse in a natural body of water of a mikvah) she said.
Wanting to accommodate her, we drove on my motorcycle down to the filthy Bay of Naples (a feat for a girl in a long skirt.) and among pan-handlers and gypsies in complete disbelief, “washed” our pot in the gross chemical soup of the bay. Presto! Halachically fit-to-use pot!
Seattle is a Liberal state but these types of Jews (gag) can be found everywhere, unfortunately.
It calls itself a "temple." What did you expect?
