Did anyone hear the MS show this past week in which he was tearing up the Muslim religious practices of beheading, and other killing. He then proceeded to object to the parts of the Old Testament that prescribed killing for all sorts of things including homosexual behavior, see Leviticus. He pointed out that the New Testament does not advocate these kinds of things, nor does Bhuddism, Hinduism, and several other religions.
It seemed his bottom line was that it is important for the welfare of the world to get the killing out of religion where ever it exists.
Thanks - As I read the Old Testament, the killings were never for revenge or conversion. The emphasis was on purification. That may be a fine point if you are getting killed, but I do think the distinction is important.
The one exception I know of (may be others) is when Noah is told to kill the person or animal which takes a human life. This is out of reverence for the value of a human life, not for discipline or revenge.
Weiner doesn’t know what he’s talking about, as usual. Especially about the New Testament.
