This problem BELONGS to the NFL. If there is a rule about the inflation of footballs, then what is the process to assure the rule is followed. The “process of regulating football pressure” BELONGS to the NFL, not Tom Brady or the Patriots!! If there is a problem with deflated footballs, the FAULT lies with the “owner” of the process ... the NFL.
I don’t know if they are incompetent, or they know to protect the Patriots. Anyway you stake it, they whitewashed them.
There is no direct evidence Patriots deflated the football. And even if the lower level Patriots had deflated the balls there is no evidence Tom Brady ordered them to do it.
The wording is more probable than not that McNally did it and more probable than not that Tom Brady was generally aware.
Brady knew he could not trust Wells or his people and therefore did not give him his phone. Brady was right to do that.
Anyone who knows anything about football knows the PSI of the footballs had no effect on the game between the Patriots and the Colts.
The Patriot footballs were inflated at half time(the Colt balls were not). The Patriots outscored the Colts 28-0 in the second half. Only people who know little or nothing about football think the PSI determined the outcome of the game.
The media delights in calling Tom Brady a cheater. They ignore his many accomplishments throughout his career,
Quite simply the media want to attack Tom Brady and destroy him. Media people say Brady is a cheater and his reputation is tarnished. They attack his father and his family.
Actually that rule does NOT require ref control. Which is part of the problem. After referee inspection the balls went back to the teams and their staff controls the bags.

They changed that procedure for the Superbowl to, frankly what it always should have been, the balls never leaving the control of league officials inbetween inspection and actually being on the field. Clearly it needed a tweak because they did tweak.
“Actually that rule does NOT require ref control. “
Which part of ‘the balls shall remain under the supervision of the referee ...’ do you not understand?
” Clearly it needed a tweak because they did tweak.”
Uh, they didn’t ‘tweak’. The realized they weren’t following their own rules.
You missed the important part of that sentence which starts with the very next word: until they are delivered to the
ball attendant just prior to the start of the game.
The ball attendant, until the Superbowl, was a team employee, not a league employee. This freed up for all kinds of shenanigans like deflating the balls, and heating the balls. That’s the tweak, who pays the ball attendant.
“You missed the important part of that sentence which starts with the very next word: until they are delivered to the ball attendant just prior to the start of the game.”
I didn’t miss that. It means JUST PRIOR to the game. Not three hours before the game.
I never said anything about 3 hours. But “just prior” lacks a lot of precision. Which just plays into the problem, when do the refs give the ball to somebody with a vested interest in re-tweaking them? The correct answer, which they implemented for the SB and hopefully going forward is: not until the ball is actually in the field of play and any shenanigans will be caught by dozens of cameras.
He wants it to be tossed. The suspension was just for show.
He’s the Obama of football.
I guess you don’t know the history. The NFL used to own the balls. They changed the protocol at the demand of Tom Brady and the Patriots.
“I never said anything about 3 hours.”
You didn’t but the Well’s report did.
” But just prior lacks a lot of precision.”
“Just Prior” contains a LOT of precision.
If he wanted it to be tossed he had that power from the start. All he had to do was fine them $25,000 like the rule says and move on. Or nip it in the bud and implement the procedure changes they did for the SB for both conference games and remove their ability to even break the rule.
Not me........
All the controversy is coming from the whiners.........
After 48 years of Super Bowls and professional football, does anyone actually think this is the first time any team has adjusted their footballs to account for the ambient temperature of the game even if it might be below the NFL regulation?
And the more the Patriots scream they aren't, the more likely more evidence of their lies will be uncovered.
Especially after last year when he under-punished Ray Rice because of his relationship with the Ravens owners, while punishing players who did less far harsher.
Do you know the history? The NFL used to have stricter rules and changed them around 2004 at the behest of Brady and the Patriots.
I don’t care about the Wells report, it’s junk.
When is just prior? During sideline setup? As the teams come out for warmups? After warmups and before the teams come out of the tunnel? Sorry there’s just no precision there. And with the ball boys in the pay of the teams that matters, because that’s what determines the window for breaking the rule. Which, again, is where the tweak came in. By switching to league employed ball boys there is no window.
“When is just prior?”
After all other sequential events but before the start of the game. IOW’s, as the teams take to the field for the kickoff.
Well Brady and Manning and a few other QBs. And at it’s core it’s not a bad rule, there’s really no reason why the QBs should be allowed balls to their preferences within reason. The problem comes in with how they defined the rule (there’s really not much reason for the PSI window to be so small) and how they executed it (why in blazes do the balls go to team employees after ref inspection).
