The Post reports that Walker now says, “In terms of legal immigration, how we need to approach that going forward is saying … the next president and the next Congress need to make decisions about a legal immigration system that’s based on, first and foremost, protecting American workers and American wages.” He went on to cite favorably Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) on the subject. The notion that legal immigration hurts the economy and native workers has been rebutted repeatedly and is widely disparaged by a host of pro-growth conservatives and scholars.....
AshLee Strong, spokeswoman for Walker’s Our American Revival PAC, tells me:“Governor Walker supports American workers’ wages and the U.S. economy and thinks both should be considered when crafting a policy for legal immigration. He strongly supports legal immigration, and like many Americans, believes that our economic situation should be considered instead of arbitrary caps on the amount of immigrants that can enter.”
It is not clear whether Walker is doing a 180 on legal immigration because he has not yet come out with a complete plan of his own. It’s not clear whether he understands that immigration is one way to boost economic growth. (There is replete evidence that immigration boosts revenue, growth and does not take jobs away from native-born workers.) Political tea-readers are therefore forced to guess at his inclinations from each utterance, but mentioning only Sessions by name is a red flag to those who see a know-nothing aversion to immigration that defies reality.
It would be hard to understand why Walker might go the Sessions route. His standing in the polls remains solid. Other pro-immigration Republicans are not hobbled by sticking with their past position. He could certainly oppose comprehensive immigration plans that legalize the status of those here illegally without veering into labor protectionism. ...."

Governor Walker has been very clear that he does not support amnesty and believes that border security must be established and the rule of law must be followed. His position has not changed, he does not support citizenship for illegal immigrants, and this story line is false,” she announced in an email to journalists Thursday afternoon.”
“I made it clear that for me, if somebody wants to be a citizen, they need to go back to their country of origin, get in line, no preferential treatment,” Walker said. “In terms of what to do beyond that, again, that’s something we got to work with Congress on.”

So far Walker is espousing positions furthest to the right and that causes me some hope.

Espousing. By that you mean talking, right?
Beyond talking...advocacy
People climb over barriers.
They tunnel under barriers.
They over-stay work and travel visas.
There are many fences along the Mexican/U.S. border.
ENFORCE the laws.
Protect and defend a secure border.

They didn’t do that to “expand the economy”. They did it to screw the “overpriced” people they have, and put more money in the managers pockets.
I never thought I would become a one issue voter, but the Illegal Immigration issue to me is so important to the survival of this country it has also become my litmus est.

That's what peaked my interest.
I am more severe.
Anyone who would legalize those now here illegally will not get my vote or money. Nor advocacy.
But they WILL get my eternal animus and I will do everything in my power to ensure they are never elected to any office again.
I don't care their position on any other issues.
The southern and western states politicians are deeply intertwined with the illegal alien labor lobby. The upper midwest states, not so much. I think after Walker took a trip down to the border, and took a look around, may have made him think twice about siding with the illegal alien lobby.

Anyone who feels the need to write their name like this makes me a bit suspicious. Maybe her parents did this to her, but I suspect she feels the need to ‘be different’ and thusly is a bit insecure and not actually a Strong person.

Walker is getting really close to supporting what my position on fraudulently documented foreigners has always been, go home and apply like everybody else. Enforcement works everywhere it has been tried.
Any talk of future legistaion makes me nervous. We need to see that they will enforce the laws we have before we agree to any changes.
Barriers aren’t 100% effective but they slow people down and give more time for the border patrol to respond. If they aren’t effective then why do people even bother building walls and fences? I was in the utility business for several decades before retiring. Any security consultant will tell you build barriers and install sensors and alarm systems if you truly want to protect your critical assets.
