Great Story!

But muzzies are doing this very thing in churches in Africa and the Middle east this very day, and not a whole lot of people leave. In fact hardly any of them do. Sometimes the evil ones burn down the church with the entire congregation INSIDE.

So while that apocryphal story may have stirred hearts from the pulpit a few years ago, now it is the stories of the Copts, Catholics, Orthodox, and Evangelicals who die with Jesus on their lips that will inspire us to faithfulness.

Lukewarm, laodician churches need not apply.

BTW... here is a great “apocryphal” story from WW2. A bunch of hard-boiled soldiers land on an uncharted island in the South Pacific. A group of very ferocious looking natives meet them on the beach. The chief says “Are you Christians?”

The head of the military group says “Naw..we don’t believe in that old fashioned stuff!”

“Good thing for you, we old fashioned” says the chief. “Otherwise we EAT you!”

You’re right - we should all be inspired by the stories of Christian perseverance in the Middle East and Africa.

My friend Lil (the one who died in my arms) was a missionary to Eastern Europe and several Islamic countries.

She worked closely with VOM.

The Left is by nature parasitical. Consider the obsession with redistribution, with inequality of existing wealth - it is an ideology of thieves who can only understand their fellow citizens in terms of theft. That obsession is what prevents socialist governments from creating wealth. The inequities necessary to drive the economic engine aren't permitted - they're "unfair".

The danger with that in the United States is that there is so very much to steal that the game can continue long after the guilty parties have passed on. It took 14 years for Chavez to cripple Venezuela, but cripple it he did. Recovery will take generations.

We encountered VOM at a homeschool convention when we lived near Oklahoma City. I think it was about 17 years ago. We’ve supporters ever since.

Lil had been over 20 years in the mission field, so me too...about the same length of time.

In fact, it used to be the “Iron Curtain” countries that did all the oppressing!
