Cornell Teacher: "White People Aren’t as Cool as Black People"

According to a teacher at Cornell University, race is a determinant of "coolness."

Yesterday, Dexter Thomas, who is helping teach the course "Asian 1104 "FWS: let's talk about cool stuff, #swag"" at Cornell this semester, wrote an article in the Guardian titled, "Why white people aren’t as cool as black people."

According to Thomas, as opposed to whites, "Black people have an effortless cool about them, almost no matter what they do."

President Obama, Thomas continues, "seems to be the King Midas of political cool. Any topic he touches – whether it’s climate change, rap music, or health care – suddenly becomes hip."

"But this will never happen for Rand Paul, or most other Republicans," Thomas adds. Why? "This is because they’re white – and white people are not as cool as black people," Thomas writes unequivocally.

"Pity the conservatives: they will never win the cool war," he adds.

To be cool, according to Thomas, you must be part of an oppressed minority. "In the United States," he explains, "the most visible and easily understandable population of rejects is black people. This is why the bleeding edge of cool is always black."

You nailed it.

Also, cool, means lack of CARING. Perhaps they are also saying, white children spent more time as babies being loved. They were so cared for that they grow to care for others better. Kids who were unloved grow up to be really cool. So cool they’d blast a cap in yo ass and go have a burger right after.

I’ve concluded through objective observation that “cool” generally means

“that level of rebellion to societal norms just below what the majority would consider dangerous or criminal”.

But that’s the definition within those in Western Civilization. Those of “urban” culture go beyond this to allow the dangerous and criminal behavior in the realm of “cool”.

“Schools do not fail. They succeed. Children always learn in school. Always and every day. When their rare and tiny compositions are “rated holistically” without regard for separate “aspects” like spelling, punctuation, capitalization, or even organization, they learn. They learn that mistakes bring no consequences.”

Interest, the class is Asian 1104? Shouldn’t it have been more like Asians are more cool? Cornell breeding ground of advanced racism............as if we need one.

“Just about every television commercial reflects this narrative.”

Don’t even get me started on TV ads, which all are becoming racist. With about 12% of the population black, why are more than half of the models and actors black? And it goes without saying the if a black and white are in the same picture, the black is best and smartest.

Now there’s the new ADT ad where a tough black man is the “cool”, competent ADT protector, and the two robbers he’s scaring away are white. Oh, yeah... that’s reality.

Liberty Insurance commercials. Those horrendous K-Mart ads before Christmas with everyone shucking and jiving, the leaders being black soon-to-be-hoodlum kids.

I have no problem with actual equality; I have a problem with this.

I went to Cornell. Graduated in the early eighties.

I met my first militant black when I got to Cornell. Before that, the blacks that I knew were normal. Very likeable. Some were brilliant. Some were great at sports. In one way or another, there was a reason to admire their talents. As I got to know the individuals, I forgot that they were black.

Cornell black students have a serious attitude. The black dining hall staff (that were not students) were normal, just not the students. I’m not talking about a small handful that spoil the rest. Nearly every one of the Cornell black students carry a militant attitude. In your face, 24-7 demonstrations of you-owe me attitude. The black fraternities were especially militant. They were branded with the fraternity insignia (like cattle), pledges walked in a line to classes together. They pressured the Cornell administration for more black studies classes. There was very little mingling of blacks with whites, outside of some demonstration.

I haven’t seen this attitude much since Cornell.

I don’t know where this professor got his view. Cornell blacks were major a$$holes.

I interpret “cool” to mean “utter indifference to everything.” In certain situations it may save your life but as a long term strategy for living it’s a loser.
