A new-to-us video from last summer shows Texas Senator and Republican Presidential candidate Ted Cruz smiling after firing a long burst from a M249 machine gun. As Cruz laughs in obvious enjoyment—you have to be dead inside not to enjoy shooting a belt-fed weapon—an off camera bystander quips, “Let’s see (retiring Senate Minority leader) Harry Reid do that.”

Careful, we wouldn’t want Ted to hit Tom Cotton, Jeff Sessions, Mike Lee, and a few others. True, but it is a very few others. Except for a few, it is a fairly target rich environment (particularly a couple California Senators).

Not a good image and it will hurt him. Now, were it Lt. Cruz training soldiers, that would be a different story. Of course, the are no photos of Lt. Cruz (or Walker, Paul, Christie, Bush, Pence, etc.). Things are not what they once were.

Agreed on the lack of military experience, but that is a sign of the times. (I’m not military either).
As for shooting a gun safely, I don’t think it will matter. Any liberals or “moderates” that see this will have already made up their minds on him with regard to numerous other issues (dumping obamacare, the IRS, common core, abortion, etc.) My dad was a staunch conservative for most things. Although he would never buy a pistol (”those are just for killing people”).
If he were still alive today though I think that I could convince him of the need for pistols (like I did my older brother), and semi-auto military style weapons. And even if he didn’t agree with me, he still would take Cruz over any democrat.
