Someone had to be first. When it comes to the 2016 presidential campaign, that person is Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas). On March 23, he formally announced that he is running for president.
Cruzs rise to national prominence has been meteoric. He was first elected to the U.S. Senate in November 2012 after never having held statewide elected office in his home state of Texas. If Cruz makes it to the White House, he would match President Barack Obama in taking just four years to go from senator to president.
Cruz would also accomplish something unprecedented in American political history: He would be the first person born in Canada to become president.

Not so...we currently have John Candy in the White House, right?
We Gen Xers are the innovators, the skeptics, and we grew up in the Reagan years.
We're the product of divorced parents, latch-key kids who came home to an empty home and did our own thing.
This is what the media won't point out. Gen Xers have taken over the Republican Party and will push it to the right again. There are no prominent Democrats who are Gen Xers, as they've been wiped out in the previous two mid-terms .
YAF speech at 7:35 in NH scheduled by Cruz!!!!! Keep a sharp eye out for this!
Yep, born in Canada as a US citizen, just as McCain was born in Panama as a US citizen. Bob
Fixed it for you.
That too.
Apologies.
“He would be the first person born in Canada to become president.”
Closer than Kenya, at least.
“Ted Cruz is also a Gen X-er, like I am. We Gen Xers are the innovators, the skeptics, and we grew up in the Reagan years... Gen Xers have taken over the Republican Party and will push it to the right again.”
Excellent points. Some hope remains.
Mitt Romney’s dad George, who ran for president in I think, 1968, was born in Mexico.
I don’t trust those Canadians, they have single payer.
I use the V.A., so I have single payer.
AHAH, You admit it.
You Cruzistas want to replace Obamacare with Canadian style socialist health care.
Well we freedom loving Americans say HELL NO!
Yeah, and all we had to do was travel to and live in third world countries, alternately freezing and roasting, work long, grueling, stressful shifts protecting our allies and become disabled in the process. Socialism at its finest.
We are not giving up our freedom to you Canadians.
