People thinking about leaving the United States frequently ask me what countries might be the best destinations. New Zealand seems to be at the top of the list for many folks considering emigration. Here is a reason to be wary of moving to utterly defenseless New Zealand.

Has Claire Wolfe been awfully quiet the last few years, or have I just been missing what she’s been writing?

The article is full of praise for Switzerland. But it is worth noting that since 2007 a Swiss reservist has NOT been permitted to keep his rifle’s ammunition in his home. Sure, he has ready access to his rifle, but all ammunition must be kept locked up in the local armory.

I’m told that rifle ammunition is still available for private purchase. So a reservist could buy a box out of his own pocket, and keep it in his house.

But the armory rule shows that even Switzerland is drifting towards stupid.

Yep. Hopefully in a time of greater risk the ammunition rule would be relaxed.

You could add Bermuda to the list of smug little anti-gun nations that could be successfully invaded by a relatively small force, but who’d want it?

I hate to say it, but I predict the opposite will happen. Some nut will get hold of some Swiss reservist's rifle and do something awful. Then a new law will be passed: All weapons and their ammunition must be locked up in the local armory.

That might not be too big of a deal when, say, the Russians are on the move but still 100 miles away. But it would be very damaging to the Swiss character.

By the way, something like that recently happened to the Danish Home Guard. Some local muslim got a hold of a stolen Guard rifle, and shot up a restaurant. So the Guard was ordered to disarm (ordered to turn in the bolts to their rifles).

The Chinese PLAN would sure like a base on Bermuda. These unguarded islands can be turned into fortresses almost overnight, and then the cost of retaking them goes up astronomically.

Even in the run-up to WW2, islands like Guam were taken by the Japanese at almost no cost. Retaking Guam cost 1,700 American lives, and 18,000 Japanese. And that was just one little island.

China could break out and capture dozens of islands during many war scenarios. Getting them back out would be very expensive, considering the native peoples would be held hostage.

When I was in Denmark long ago a joke was that the Danish military should be reduced to one general with a telephone, to agree to the surrender terms of any invader.

The recent incident with the Home Guard shows that the joke's definition of "invader" has been expanded, it now includes muslim infiltrators.

“Sandy Hook, New Jersey”?

Despite that he’s right. I have an old friend in New Zealand and the national mood regarding armed self-defence resembles the female lead’s in “50 Shades of Grey” attitude toward lovemaking.

There’s also the fact that the writer of the article did minimal research. I like the Swiss model and all, but they were actually conquered by Napoleon, so any claim that they have never been invaded is false.

Also the Swiss have a lot more in the way of defenses than just rifles in each house. They also have an extensive series of fortifications and all their roads, bridges, and avalanche shields are set up to be wrecked in case of invasion.

Yes, the armed citizenry is a serious help, but they go far beyond that to make themselves an undesirable target.

Unless you’ve got some serious money involved, methinks leaving the USA for more freedom-favorable conditions is unwise. Only here exists such a deep-seated fierce sense of freedom. The leadership may be turning downright oppressive, and taxation obnoxious, but only here is “FMCDH” and “MYOB” downright axiomatic. Switzerland may be armed & independent, but individuals are still considered part of the European mindset of government first. New Zealand sounds more like a liberal enclave which just hasn’t gotten mugged yet - and will punish the individuals when it does.

We were in New Zealand in May of ‘01 when we heard on the radio that the prez of NZ, a woman, announced the military had been dissolved. It is the most beautiful place I have ever been but I wouldn't want to live there.

My experience in NZ is ancient history from 1987 when I was there for a brief visit. Agree with what has been posted here about NZ. Remember, they never allowed U.S. nuclear naval vessels to dock in NZ ports. There does seem to be some level of friction between the Maoris and Anglos. Their branch of the Anglican church has driven off the cliff in full embrace of homosexual inclusion.

***Watch the “The Last Valley,” an under-appreciated film masterpiece from 1971,***

bought and watched it last week.

From what I have read, NZ now has a racial problem. it seems the Maoris have learned VICTIMISM and it has gotten bad. They now have become an “in your face” problem almost like Ferguson, MO.
