Like his son, he believes that the Mexican war was an evil mistake, that President Polk was merely an egregious racist, and that the Goliad Massacre of 300 Americans by Santa Anna’s troops was a righteous act of an outraged Mexican nation. “Manifest Destiny” was so much hooey, ya know?
