Allen Ginsburg was a beat poet. His poem “Howl” was banned in the 50’s.
His mother was mentally ill and spent much of her time in various mental hospitals.
IMHO, "Howl" is a great poem. But very definitely not one to be taught to schoolkids.
I say "admittedly" because there are at least a dozen places where he talks/writes openly about it. I don't have the time to look them all up, but there's this:

He's never been prosecuted because he's a Creative Genius don'cha know. Creative Geniuses are allowed to do whatever they want.
