Mother Jones: "Eating Three Meals a Day is Racist"
Pundit Press ^ | 3/5/15 | Aurelius

In one of the dumbest articles ever to see the light of day, Mother Jones has declared that eating three meals a day is "racist."

The piece, titled "Why You Should Stop Eating Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner," was written by Kiera Butler, a senior editor, and was published yesterday.

How is eating food racist? Butler explains that white Europeans brought the tradition of eating three meals a day with them to the "New World."

"When European settlers got to America, they also imported their meal habits," Butler writes, "a light meal—maybe cold mush and radishes—in the morning, a heavier, cooked one midday, and a third meal similar to the first one later in the day. They observed that the eating schedule of the native tribes was less rigid."

However, when food was scarce, natives "fasted. The Europeans took this as "evidence that natives were uncivilized," Butler writes, citing an email she received from someone who wrote a book.

I've been all over the world, 65 countries for some reason or another (most all to do or at least try to do business) at last count, and I have yet to visit one where people don't eat something when they get up, at least a bite or two at midday, and another usually much larger meal before bed.

The size of the meals at each interval can vary. The traditional breakfast for the Brits and the Irish pack a caloric wallop washed down with milk and sugar tea, while on the Continent folks usually make do with some sort of bread and jam plus stands-up-on-its-own coffee. The Japanese put salad and western style dressing out for breakfast buffet, the Koreans offer kimchee, and the Chinese a rice based porridge called congee that you can flavor up with various condiments such as soy sauce, peanuts, and green and dried onions. The Arabs eat a bean stew called foul mudammas.

But if they can afford and manage it everybody eats some version of three squares a day. And since skipping meals is a dietary no no (it causes our famine resistant ape man bodies to start storing fat) but is some sort of cultural "black thang" much of the whole 300 pound Welfare Queen phenomenon can be explained.

Sometimes I have four small meals a day. I must be downright bigoted.

I find this particularly funny. In February 2011 she accompanied me and a couple of other guys on a South Carolina pig hunt. I even gave her some meat from one I shot to take with her to a friend she was visiting while in South Carolina. She was writing an article about hunting in general and the trip. The article was actually quite positive about hunting (to my surprise).
Looks like she has gone from Hard Left to Loony Tunes Left with this article.
At the time I was very hesitant to be involved with her coming along, but I just couldn’t turn down an opportunity to shoot pigs. ;-)

...a light meal, maybe cold mush and radishes

This is how they want the peasants to eat, while she and her fellow Party members eat lavishly in their dachas.

Kiera Butler should check her own racism before trying to accuse others. Writing an article for Mother Jones in English is racist. White Europeans brought written language generally and the English language more specifically to the "New World".

So Kiera Butler's ugly behavior is an object lesson in racism.

When European settlers got to America, they also imported their meal habits,"

Meal habits are part of what is called folkways. Folkways exist in advanced civilizations as well as in primitive societies. In addition to meal habits, folkways include building ways, family ways, marriage ways, gender ways, sex ways, child-rearing ways, naming ways, age ways, death ways, religious ways, magic ways, learning ways, food ways, dress ways, sport ways, work ways, time ways, wealth ways, rank ways, social ways, order ways, power ways, and freedom ways.Every major culture in the modern world has its own distinctive customs in the many areas.

Racist means HATRED of those who are different. This idiocy has gone as far as what one used to realize was a ridiculous joke. Do you remember the old joke about the Jewish mother??

She buys her adult son two new shirts for work, a blue and a white. He opens the present, expresses thanks, and Mom says, “So?? Try them on!!” Her son goes into the other room and puts on the blue shirt, comes out and shows the family. Mom takes one look and says, “So what’s wrong with the white shirt??”

Finding a way to criticize her son for something he can’t help - only one body to try on one shirt at a time - and because of the utter ridiculousness of the mother’s demands this is SEEN BY ALL TO BE A FUNNY JOKE.

Now, apparently these lefties cannot see their own ridiculous demands. In order not to be called a hater of people different than yourself, you must drop everything you were taught by your own family.

The next step would be to say that peeing into a toilet is racist. Same argument. Speaking your mother tongue, racist. Putting ketchup on eggs, racist. Tying shoe laces, racist.

No. Evidence of hatred of those different from you = racist. That is it. Words need to mean things.

That is very interesting.

Did she start being a veggie after that?

What was her purpose and how did she get in contact with you?

However, when food was scarce, natives "fasted.

Doesn't this conflict with the notion that pre-Colombian America was some sort of utopia with more buffaloes and deer than the Indians could possibly eat and that the Indians were such brilliant farmers and hunters that they had to teach the Pilgrims how to survive?

Well, that's it. No more cold mush and radish breakfasts for me. I sure don't want to be racist.

In fact, the number three is racist. So is pointing it out. So is ignoring it.

Only if you don't use this article as toilet paper.

Importantly, eating and sleeping habits of Europeans may have substantially changed with industrialization.

For years, historians were puzzled by references to “first sleep” and “second sleep”, until they finally found an explanation.

For farmers, their day began before dawn, but pretty well ended at dusk. So they got into the habit of going to sleep early, waking late at night to stoke the fire, have a meal, and prepare breakfast that would cook on the fire until needed. When they woke up before dawn, they would eat a light meal and set to work.

The women stayed home to work, and prepare for “dinner”, which is what we today call lunch, but for them was the big meal of the day. After dinner they would go back to work until dusk, then have a “supper” a mid sized meal, before going to bed.

With the coming of industrialization, artificial lighting changed everything. Larger breakfast, small lunch, and large dinner, then sleep all night.

Not really sure. If I remember correctly I don’t think she was a vegetarian at that time.
The whole thing was set up with her by my son-in-law. He is a writer and was working on a book at the time about hunting and eating invasive animals. She got wind of it and contacted him about tagging along to do an article about hunting. She even shot a rifle for the first time our first day there. He was interested in attempting to change minds of anti-hunters and thought it might be an opportunity.
She was there when I turned one pig into its constituent parts and didn’t seem too repulsed.
