RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The Raleigh teenager whose efforts to land a job at Chick-fil-A became a social media sensation has been hired, the company confirmed.

He is scheduled to get trained on the job Friday afternoon.

Yasir Moore went into a Target store to buy a clip-on tie before an interview at the Chick-fil-A at Triangle Town Center. The Target didn’t have clip-on ties, but the employees soon helped Moore tie a tie and get ready for the interview.

Glad the teenager got the job. He took the time to look for a tie for an interview. I have had adults show up wearing athletic warm ups, flip flops, and bandanas for full time jobs with benefits.

We were eating at a Captain D’s in Dayton Ohio back in ‘97. A kid came in for an interview on roller blades and wearing court jester hat.

True story.

I’m glad too. He seems like a good kid!

Back in 2001 when I was still managing a hotel, I had a woman turn up for an interview for the front desk clerk job in pants and a vest. NO SHIRT under the vest & NO BRA. I couldn’t believe it and the vest was a typical vest with the large armholes so everything was obvious.

I’ve heard stories from successful business people that as teens they carried briefcases and wore shirts and ties. Hopefully this kid stays on the right path and becomes a success as an adult. Maybe a businessperson will mentor him.

I’ve had them shuffle up and say “you don’t need no help, you”? Then they’d hand me a form to sign stating that they applied for a job.

Love it. . Hope they hired him, but his originality already proved that he was over qualified for that job.

I would hire someone in a jester hat before hiring someone wearing a clip on tie any day. A clip on tie is a dead giveaway that you are a complete roob.

I interviewed a young man 2 weeks ago for a part-time transfer driver position (moving trucks in and out of the regional repair shop from/to various locations), who probably graduated high school last year. I look for someone who communicates well in English, has a clean-ish driving record (tickets OK, just not recent), and knows how to use a GPS or Google Maps. It's surprising how many with those qualifications don't want to work. This young man (I really want to call him a kid, because he looks like one) lays a shiny new Class A CDL on me (driver training bonus points on his DMV record; CDL not required for the position) and tells me he wants to drive big trucks for a living, but no one will hire him, even with a Class A CDL, because of his inexperience.

I couldn't get him hired fast enough. He's going solo next week.

I understand that there is a shortage of truck drivers that is expected to only get worse.

What that Target employee was doing to help that man - THAT is what Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson should be doing....

Good. He cared enough to put some effort into his appearance, found that random strangers cared enough to assist and wish him well, and he’s starting with an excellent company with stellar ethics. Bottom rung, yes, but everybody’s got to start somewhere.

When my kids were young, they went to the Boys & Girls Club after school. There was a black high school student who went there, too. I remember his name was Nick. He always wore a tie and carried a briefcase. I have wondered what ever happened to him. I am pretty sure he was successful.

So if I go to an interview at Target, should I stop by Chick-Fil-A and buy sandwiches for the interview? :-)
