The Fifth Ammendment

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

May I see some ID ?

no

That's all there is TO it ... but admittedly, it can be hard when a uniform or two (or more) are intimidating you outside your car door

Stay cool, ask if you are being charged ... then I can go on my way, right ?

Good point, referencing the 5th....but Roberts and the Supremes will likely not care.

They can just arrest you, hold you without cause for a couple days, and figure that by then you’ve learned your lesson. Any attempt on your part to fight it will be either fought to your financial undoing, or settled/dropped to your tolerable dissatisfaction. If you’re going to take the 5th Amendment to the fullest applicable, you’ll be tied up in legal bills for a decade.
