Why should we be surprised that the national media continues to report on global warming when our government has been engaged in the deliberate distortion of the actual data?
When reporters forfeit their credibility by making up stories, sources, or quotes, we are right to mock them. When their violations are significant or repeated, they should be fired, says Charles Lipson, a professor of political science at the University of Chicago. Demanding honest reporting has nothing to do with the reporters politics, personality, or personal life. It is about professional standards and our reasonable expectations.
Writing at Real Clear Politics, Prof. Lipson concluded by saying, Its essential for our news organizations, and it matters for our democracy.
Are we seeing a trend here? Dan Rather at CBS and now Brian Williams at NBC? Well, two news anchors are not a trend, but biased and bad reporting is. Its not new, but it does seem to be gathering momentum and nowhere has it been more apparent than the millions of words written and spoken about global warming and now climate change.

“Its essential for our news organizations, and it matters for our democracy.
Only if the Wes organizatios support democracy, which they don’t. They support the revolution and the only way to fix it is to burn down every J School program in the country as well as every network news program.
These two are hardly the first. We also have the purposeful ignoring of Stalin’s crimes and lies about the Tet Offensive in ‘68 being a huge loss for America and the purposfull lies about communist infiltration in the Feral government.
Lie’n Brian won’t be missed... he’s always been an intellectual featherweight!
You know, in the UK they refer to them as “news readers”. Why we elevate Williams, Rather, Brokaw, etc., etc. to some higher level is beyond me. Worse, why we hold them to a higher standard than our elected officials is missing the point completely.
Yes, Williams lied. The media lie every day. I know that, and it’s why I haven’t watched a network evening news broadcast in years. They lie in their coverage; they’re biased in their coverage (another form of lying); and they exercise selection bias; in choosing what to report and what to ignore (yet another form of lying.
Yet Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Biden, Holder, S. Rice, Hillary, Kerry, and their spokespersons lie every day. Where’s the outrage over that?
The news is presented in a biased way always. Largely the media is liberal, and thus presenst the liberal side of issues favorably, and the conservative side in lesser or worse position. Been that way for many years and getting more so, day by day.
Which is why it is important to not just accept the news as truth. Nothing new about this.

Feb. 06, 2015 - 11:00 - NBC anchor under fire for fake Iraq claim
As I said previously, some poster on FR during the Katrina crisis said that Williams was lying about the bodies floating. I remember thinking, well there would be film if it was true. I cannot find the thread. I think it was embedded in a thread, not a post of its own.
