Over-reaction of meteorologists and politicians
Dateline: January 27, 2015 - 3 to 4 AM, New York City and Tri-State area.
There was no climate change where I live in a suburb of Newark, N.J. if by climate change you meant a dramatic blizzard with high winds and several feet of snow. Its winter and you get the occasional, rare blizzard every few years, but more often you get snowstorms. Thats not change by any definition.
Listening to WABC radio follow events with callers from around the Tri-State area calling in with far more accurate reports than the meteorologists was an education in the way those trained in meteorology and the rest of us have been conditioned to believe that something is happening to planet Earth that, quite simply, is not happening.

News station meteorologists always assume the worst with winter storms. First, understandably, they want people to be prepared in case the worst happens. Second, it makes for good TV. They need ratings the same as American Idol does. People may me angry now, but I bet most of them were glued to their TVs watching the news.

Weather Channel is atrocious. Last night some nerd standing in Boston discussing how if you pick up snow and throw it in wind it will blow away.
Really ?
Meanwhile bimbos back in studio with fascinated looks on their faces, gosh this is so informative !

I was born in Chicago, grew up in the Chicago area, and lived and worked in Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin before I moved to TN many years ago. When I saw the forecasts, especially for NYC were for snow in the one to two foot range, I asked what was the big deal. We’d have one storm every year or two in the northern states I’d lived in in the one to two foot range without any great emergency. This was all so much Warmist hype.

They predicted 20-30 and there is almost 30” just north of Boston now..

It is still snowing but at least the roads are plowed.
Driving conditions are still poor with blowing snow-winds seem to be 20-30 miles an hour.

Two very interesting (at least in my view) quotes from an article on Time’s website today (linked from Drudge):
“Why couldnt they make their own decisions about working during the snow? “
“The people who keep New York humming take the subway after 11pm and can decide for themselves whether to keep their businesses open. Preparedness doesnt have to mean panic.”
You know the snowperboles exceeded the limits of the “worry scale” when Time Magazine actually writes personal responsibility-like words. However, that being said, I don’t think we help our “cause” any by constantly harping on the “weather guys got it wrong”, or “the government officials got it wrong”, etc, etc. I agree, it is sensationalized and naming winter storms was about the last straw in maintaining credability, however, with the litigious, “I’m going to sue you for any reason” society we have today, they are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Play it up and nothing happens, they look silly. Play it down and the SHTF, heads will roll...what do we expect them to do?

“70+ MPH winds & 2 feet of snow is chopped liver?”, Apparently it is to most here, I just got finished snow blowing 24” of weather hype out of my driveway. Which is right in the middle of the 18 to 30 inch range that was predicted yesterday morning.

70+ MPH winds & 2 feet of snow is chopped liver? No. Chopped liver is something to be feared and avoided. Didn't get to take the 'Cat out until well after midnight. It was nothing special, a fairly typical snow storm, but at least I got to... that is I heard that a friend of a friend - not me because I know that would be wrong - got to ride for miles down the roads before they were plowed.

My driveway is a quarter mile long and the grade of half of it I’d virtually vertical. I plowed 4 times since last night. Could not keep the windows from icing because it was so damn cold with high winds. Somewhere between 24 and 30 inches of snow fell. I live in northeast Ct where the snow bands appear magically on every noreastet. So I am used to snow in large amounts but we have not had a storm like this one in a good long time. The only thing they missed was the water content of the snow and thankfully they missed on the good side. Low water content so no trees down in my driveway and nothing clinging to power lines.

I sat home yesterday taking care of sick family members. I persoanlly couldn’t stand watching cable news.
It’s as if the entire world revolves around the east coast, particularly the NE.
As is they have never had a winter storm before either. For the love of Pete I was getting mad!

I got 28+ inches. It’s still coming down. The high winds stopped awhile ago, but visibility was near nothing for quite awhile. Maybe NYC got lucky, but for central MA, this was a bad ‘un.

Snow has stopped in the Bangor area but still very windy.
Lots of blowing snow over the roads, so driving still dangerous. We may get another few inches of snow tonight and a inch or two tomorrow morning.
our state and local officials as well as most business owners made the right decision to cancel schools and colleges and not to open businesses.
