Gov. Walker backs citizenship pathway for illegal immigrants [July 03, 2013]
The HIll ^ | July 03, 2013 | Daniel Strauss

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) says he supports a pathway to citizenship for immigrants living in the country illegally as part of an overhaul of the nation's immigration system.

"If people want to come here and work hard and benefit, I don't care whether they come from Mexico or Ireland or Germany or Canada or South Africa or anywhere else," Walker said Tuesday during an interview with the Daily Herald Media Editorial Board of Wisconsin. "I want them here."

Walker was then asked about the estimated 11 million immigrants living in the country illegally. The editorial board asked if he could "envision a world where with the right penalties and waiting periods and meet the requirements where those people could get citizenship?"

"Sure," Walker responded. "I mean I think it makes sense." Walker's comments came roughly a week after the Democratic-controlled Senate passed a bipartisan immigration reform proposal that includes a pathway to citizenship.

The proposal strengthens border security along the U.S.-Mexico border by doubling the length of fencing across the border and also doubling the number of border patrol agents. Walker said he had not fully reviewed the Senate bill and has not taken a position on the legislation.

Walker's comments separate him from some conservative House lawmakers who have said they cannot support the Senate immigration reform bill because it includes a pathway to citizenship.

I want no pathway to citizenship for illegals.

NONE !

I feel sorry for people who are waiting patiently to come here legally so nothing will change my mind on this.

No rewards for breaking laws.

I watched the video of the Walker interview. What Walker said is precisely what is contained in the post. In the context, it is clear that he was referring to illegal immigrants. The original poster properly recorded the article date in 2013. There was no necessity to include “2013” in the title. As such, I see no deception at work here, except for those who were, stridently and repeatedly, critical of him. Methinks they protesteth too much. One of those critics sounds like a Walker partisan.

VRWC; Are you serious?

Interesting that you should take such delight in seeing a front running Republican candidate having what you (incorrectly) think is Pro-Amnesty position.

What happened to being American first, before you are a particular candidate supporter?

You’re the one defending the pro-Shamnesty candidate. Project much?

He’s not ready for Prime Time. He is a pretty good governor, though and he should stay as such.

I’m not the one cheering because I believe one of the Republican candidates is Pro-Amnesty.

That’s you.

Where the hell is your loyalty to America?

It does now. It didn’t before. The Mods changed it.

I don't know anything. That's the point. He may have changed, clarified, repudiated, or further embraced his remarks from 17 months ago.

I just don't know.

My point is that a 17 month old news items should NOT have been tagged with today's date as if this is a position he took at the conservative summit.

Scott Walker got major financing from the Koch brothers. The Koch brothers are Amnesty all the way. The question is, since he doesn’t need funding for his gubernatorial campaign anymore, has he changed his position on Amnesty? I don’t know. And I’m not going to find that out from any article that’s 17 months old.

It's very revealing of your agenda if you put today's date in the heading, then after it gets fixed by a moderator, and you come back to me claiming it said July 3 all along. You know it didn't.

He did NOT.

The OP dated the article 1/26/2015, and after I questioned why, it was altered by a Mod, as was the title.

The title needed to be corrected too?

Do you remember what it was originally?

This article is 17 months old. It is not whatever Walker’s current thinking might be.

So, you're saying that Gov Walker's stance on illegal immigration has evolved?

I remember Obama's stance on gay 'marriage' evolving too.

I have no idea. And I'm not likely to find out from an article this old. My question was why the OP chose to misrepresent this as "breaking news." That's where it was posted, and originally it was posted with today's date.

I think people on FR should be honest with each other.

Do you think differently?

Most of the illegals here have committed multiple identity felonies, at least, to go along with their illegality.

They should not be merely sent to the back of the line, but out of the line completely.

And if they’d make for good citizens, they should be good citizens back home, contributing to their own countries.

You’ve got to be kidding. Even if Walker went pro-amnesty (and pro-open borders) for money from the Kochs, that assures he’s bought and paid for for a presidential run and any possible presidency.

I don’t want him anywhere near national office.
