Rock music peaked in the 70s, but top 40 had one more good decade left in it.

When I think of the "eightiesest" 80s music, I tend to think of (in no particular order):

• The Safety Dance, Men Without Hats
• Take On Me, A-Ha
• Everybody Have Fun Tonight, Wang Chung
• Don't You (Forget About Me), Simple Minds
• Hold Me Now, The Thompson Twins

Not necessarily the best music of the time, or my favourite music of the time, but that which IMO best defines the radio of the decade.
