After all, that Delacroix painting, “Liberty Leading the People” depicts a Frenchwoman, Marianne, leading the citizens’ charge.

Of course, her bodice is ripped and her breasts are showing, so maybe all those patriotic Frenchmen are trying to do is catch up with her. Whatever works.
