The new Congress will begin its session today. Conservatives will try to oust Speaker John Boehner and will fail badly in their efforts. From there the question is what direction is the new Republican Congress going to take things. The next 100 days are crucial for the Republican Party, which badly needs to show its capable of governing. It’s a given that President Obama will veto just about every bill Congress sends him. The key for Republicans will be passing bills the general public can support while making Obama look like an obstructionist in vetoing them. It’s easier said than done of course. Congress also needs to stand up to unconstitutional executive lawmaking by the President. Again, it’s easier said than done for the Republicans.
It appears that Boehner and company plan to pass several bills they’re collectively calling jobs bills. These bills focus on military veterans, restoring the 40 hour work week and authorizing the Keystone XL Pipeline. The military bill is nothing but pandering to base Republicans, though pandering to veterans has broad appeal. Boehner is aiding Obamacare by trying to restore the 40 hour work week. While restoring the 40 hour work week is good, it should not be done to aid Obamacare. Having said that, the Republicans are framing that bill as a pro-woman bill. Apparently 63% of the people negatively affected by Obamacare’s 30 hour mandate are women. Keystone XL is a no brainer that has broad public support. In all, these populist bills will look reasonable to most Americans which is why a Presidential veto will look obstructionist.
The problem for the Republican Congress is that it appears unwilling to battle Obama over his executive amnesty laws. Sen. John Thune suggested Congress won’t shut down Homeland Security over executive amnesty. Half the problem for the Republicans is that a substantial minority supports the sort of amnesty Obama is after. They might not like the methods Obama is using to obtain amnesty but they support his end goal. As such, they don’t have the stomach to fight Obama’s unconstitutional law writing. In doing this these Republicans are failing to appreciate the long term problem with Obama’s executive amnesty policies. He’s tossing aside the Constitution in order to create law when Congress refuses to do so. This isn’t about amnesty or illegal immigration, it’s about the Constitution and how laws are created in this country. By doing nothing, this Congress is telling future Presidents that they are free to take the power to legislate for themselves.
What will this Congress do with Obamacare? Obviously conservatives want the bill repealed. Everyone understands that the President will veto a repeal bill, as such a repeal bill is only symbolic. It appears that Congress is prepared to amend Obamacare to make the law more workable. Restoring the 40 hour work week is one way to amend Obamacare and in doing so it helps make the bill more tolerable. What else are the Republicans going to do to prop up Obamacare? Will they cut or eliminate various taxes in the law which are unpopular? Will they cut the individual mandate tax? Will they amend Obamacare so that individuals in states that did not set up exchanges are eligible for subsidies? That’s an issue before the Supreme Court right now, Congress could make the lawsuit moot with a one sentence bill. As time goes by the Republicans appear less willing to oppose the Obamacare boondoggle.
One thing that we can be nearly certain of is that conservatives will be dreadfully disappointed in the new Congress. It’s unlikely that John Boehner and company will advance a true conservative agenda. Instead, they’ll continue to fund Obama’s pet projects, they’ll refuse to challenge him on his power grabs and they won’t attempt to dismantle Obamacare. They won’t pass tax cuts, they won’t touch social issues with a 10 foot pole. In the Senate, one wonders if the Republicans will even hold up or not confirm dozens of judicial appointees. While Boehner’s pandering jobs bills might have broad support, they really aren’t going to tackle very much. Meanwhile the national debt is over $18 trillion and the Republicans have no plan for reducing spending. If the Republicans don’t advance a conservative agenda and if another liberal gets the GOP nomination, you have to wonder at what point will conservatives simply leave the Republican Party.

Two choices:
1. Continue enabling treason against the US Constitution
or
2. Remove Benedict Boehner and impeach the undocumented Tyrant.
Boehner isn’t going to be removed today. Even if he was, what exactly is the point of impeaching Obama? We know he won’t be removed from office by the Senate, so what’s in it for Republicans and conservatives?

I am coming to the conclusion that in all honesty, conservatives and Tea Partiers are (politically) battered women.
They KNOW they are in a bad relationship. They KNOW their partner cheats on them, even doing so in public. And their partner KNOWS that despite any level of abuse, the battered woman will ALWAYS return to them, willingly.
For whatever reason, whether the promise of gifts or toys, security in a posh lifestyle, or the mistaken belief that “I can change them, he’s really a good guy, I’ll just give him another chance”, the battered woman always stays.
In the words of Karl Rove, “Of COURSE they’ll vote Republican, where ELSE are they going to go?” Because unlike battered women, there is no shelter for battered conservatives.
Fail badly? Do you have a crystal ball, Leo? Only RINOs would want a conservative Democrat as speaker of the REPUBLICAN majority house. No more RINOs!!!!

I will vote for the dim, not because I support them, but because I want YOU and your RINOs to know, I DO have other options....and one very appealing option is to hurt you and them as much as I can for that crass assumption.

If you read my article yesterday you would know I argued that conservatives are the real RINO’s in the Republican Party.
I don’t like Boehner and I would love to see him ousted. But it isn’t going to happen. Even if it did, Louis Gohmert doesn’t have the votes to become the Speaker. The GOP would end up picking a compromise Speaker. Paul Ryan or some other moderately conservative Republican would be picked and conservatives on FR and elsewhere would be howling in outrage.
I’ve always hated the whole “adult” argument. It’s used to shut down anyone who someone disagrees with. The Obama people claim he’s an “adult” thus implying that Republicans are children. The GOP establishment claims Boehner is an “adult” implying the Tea Party folks are a bunch of children. The Tea Party plays the game to, claiming Rand Paul is an adult, implying Ted Cruz or someone else isn’t. (you could interchange any name, I’m not singling out Paul.) It’s tiresome. Everyone we’re talking about is an adult, enough with the childish semantics.
The agenda should be responsible governance. Today’s reckless spending is irresponsible, and they should slash government back to its proper level.
Obamacare is an irresponsible job killer, and Congress should block, delay, repeal, and otherwise weaken Obamacare until it’s a harmless sieve with so many holes that it can no longer hurt anyone (or do anything).
Amnesty is an irresponsible giveaway of jobs and government services to criminals. Congress should block spending on that evil and illegal program.
BATFE is out of control, and its mission is a combination of violating the Second Amendment and nosing into our personal lives. Congress should govern responsibly by eliminating all BATFE funding and repealing all enabling laws.
I could go on, but the theme - responsibility - is what I’m looking for with FedGov in the next two years.
I couldn’t bring myself to vote for Fauxcahontas or Hillary. I would vote third party. In fact, voting third party hurts the GOP more because it’s obvious to them what’s going on. When they lose by 3 points and the libertarian candidate pulls 3% of the vote, they assume that vote would have been theirs but for the libertarian candidate. If you vote Democrat, they don’t even recognize your existence.
