They are expensive but getting cheaper.
If they really last as long as they are rated, it is not a bad deal. And it is kinda nice to get 60 watts of light for 10 watts. I am slowly converting my home over to LED.

I get a laugh out of the “they’ll last YEARS!” lie.

Well, sort of lie.

The LED will last a long time but don’t forget the voltage has to be stepped down (120V to ~5V) and made into DC (V.S. AC). That is the failure point; one bad surge (we get ‘em all the time) and the transformer is dead or the component that does the AC->DC conversion burns out.

It isn’t the LED that’s expensive, it is all the support to make it light up which is also the weak link.
