Why cant we just use the gas taxes for highway improvement/maintenance?

If the state maintains roads the same way the town does, they will cut the maintenance budgets because they are expenses, until the road is so bad it has to be replaced. This is a capital expense.

Different sources of money.

So ALL of your vehicular movement will have to be monitored because it won't stop at just "urban expressways".

The odometer will become a "smart" meter that will communicate with whomever, wirelessly and without your knowledge. It will collect all right, then decide you've driven too many miles this month. Like electricity rates... the rate (tax) will become higher per mile once you hit "x" miles for the month, etc. A felony for tampering with it of course, to toss in a 2nd amendment threat while they are at it.

I am sick and tired of fellow citizens who vote for and/or create, implement, or enforce never-ending tax schemes and control-freak edicts. Government is a necessary evil and needs to be severly limited, otherwise this is what we get: thieves using thug government to steal from their neighbors, thinking themselves morally superior for doing it.

Instead of secret shoppers they are secret shoplifters. The productive class being the "shop" that they lift from.

Any scheme that involves GPS tracking or recording DESTROYS what is left of the privacy of travel.

You’re completely right.

It would also give them the excuse and ability to monitor and track our every move.

This is a very bad idea in so many ways.

I will accept this when they start charging school taxes based on how many kids you have attending that screwl.

Yep.
Use tax b.s. with no way avoid or promote efficiency.

Might as well tax a body for every beat of their heart.

Don't give them ideas.

Obviously, we will end up with both taxes.

My vote doesn’t matter in CT. I will still vote, but voting with my feet is the only thing I can do in such a state.

Reason 11: To do the per-mile taxation, all vehicles will be tracked 24/7 so “authorities” can determine exactly where they were and when they were there.

They’ll make you pay to retrofit your car or you won’t get tabs or plates.(Like Kalifornia does to older cars that don’t pass their CARB tests.)

Best of luck to you. I still have great memories of Connecticut, and had a nice visit there, just a few months ago. It is a shame, really, that such a fine place has been made so unlivable, due to Malloy, and all that he represents.

The current tax on a gallon of gas is already based on miles.

Thanks. Was waiting for someone to make this statement.
