A little over a week ago, the Hamilton County Sheriff department said that they arrested a man who they believed painted a handgun to resemble a toy. From thestate.com:
"And the fact is right here in Hamilton County, we arrested a dangerous individual who we believe purposefully painted a loaded handgun red to mislead law enforcement into thinking this was a toy gun," Neil said in statement. The pistol, a Cobra FS 380, pictured above, comes from the factory in a variety of colors. Guns have been available in a variety of colors for decades. It seems likely that the pistol confiscated from the police came from the factory that way. Ruby Red is a color available as an option from Cobra Firearms.
So much for that brilliant idea.
diversity....in firearms...?
Ruby red doesn’t appear to wear well. Note the muzzle end of the slide. Maybe the wear is just more visible on guns of “exotic” colors.
How rasis is that?
Assuming you are armed and in some “confrontation”, if YOU had that gun pointed at you and saw the “pink” color, would you shoot or not, thinking it is a toy? (You have less that one second to decide).
Personally, I think that any “real” gun painted a color other than black should be outlawed. I AM NOT AGAINST GUNS AND HAVE MY OWN CCW.
I’ve been predicting this would happen.
Just as I said in the original thread
Colored guns have been around for over 50 years:
In 1957 a snub-nose model of the Sentinel was introduced, with a rounded butt on the grip. The early guns had a bobbed hammer, through about 1960, after which they featured a spur hammer. Color finishes in gold, turquoise, and pink, known as Dura-Tone colors, were offered for the snub-barrel Sentinels. The Dura-Tone guns came in a deluxe presentation case and had white smooth grips.

I’m surprised all the criminals don’t try to put orange doohickies on their guns but then again, the criminal types prefer the image of toughness they get from the color black more than they value any extra time they might get if a cop hesitates, so maybe that’s why it’s not widespread yet.
Pointed at me? Shoot. Without hesitation.
“Colored guns have been around for over 50 years:”........
Gun owners like you and I know this. I stated a personal opinion and was directing my comments about HAND GUNS.
I guess a bank robber would prefer not to flash a colored gun because the teller might not take it seriously and do as requested. Black has more intimidation power.

What about stainless steel? Desert tan? Grey?
If someone points a gun at you, MOVE! That buys you time to draw your own weapon and evaluate. If they are just “waving it around”, MOVE!
I own a zombie green Glock.
My understanding is if you point anything at a cop, he may just start shooting.
These days, I can’t say I blame them.
Black is beautiful!
Shoot first. Ask questions later.
