Grayson Matthews, above, has bad luck. He has had to defend the family convenience store twice. Once, back in 2011, he shot a robber who was pretending to have a shotgun. That guy was wearing a plastic bag over his head with eye holes cut in it. It must have been hard to see out of. From journal-news.com:
Matthews told the suspect he kept more money in his front right pocket of his pants. He showed Wright the money, switched it from his right to his left hand, and when Wrights eyes followed, Matthews told him he kept $200 more under the counter.Matthews seems quick thinking, and has tactical sense, but his luck changed yesterday, 13 December, when two other men attempted to rob the store. Matthews got into a gunfight with them. He almost certainly hit one in the head, while the other has not been arrested. No description of the suspects has been released.
Thats when he grabbed a .38-caliber revolver, fired three shots, at least one striking Wright in the left shoulder. Wright raced out of the neighborhood store, ran to a nearby residence and dropped the plastic bag and his weapon later identified as a piece of aluminum on the back porch.
Sgt. Ed Buns, spokesman for the Hamilton Police Department, said two men entered the store and tried to rob it.In early 2012, Matthew's father used a handgun to chase a robber, who had stabbed him, out of the store.
Grayson Matthews, 53, was the clerk on duty when the suspects entered the store. Matthews told police several gunshots were exchanged between himself and at least one of the men.
I remember when I was a kid back in the 60’s a man tried to hold up a liquor store about a mile from our house. The owner shot and killed him. Two days later the deceased guy’s cousin showed up and threatened the owner. When he reached inside his coat the owner killed him too.
I like your guy....he saves the taxpayer money too!
A friend of mine took a.357 round in the forearm during a robbery attempt at his store. It traveled along the bones in his arm and tore his brachial artery. He very nearly bled to death. It was an FMJ target bullet.
My friend managed to put 3 .357 hollow points into his assailant. One bisected the bad guys spinal cord. The perps last act was to shoot himself in the head sparing the taxpayers considerable expense.
Tough neighborhood.
Clerk should switch to a KAHR PM45.
That will solve the problem of the robber leaving the store.
That's why I have to chuckle when I look at all the defensive ammo I've got in the safe. Who do I think I am? Wyatt Earp? I'd be lucky to survive one gunfight, never mind two, three or four.
A speedy recovery to Mr. Matthews!
Your “luck” improves by the level of access you have to your defense.
Carry on your person and there’s less logistics.
Indeed, they say you can’t have too much ammo, but I think I’ve passed the point where the fight is going to be over, or I’m going to be dead.
About 20 years ago 2 thugs tried to hold up the local barber shop. A very small shop, just 2 chairs and a small back room.
The barber had his back to the door as thugs entered, but he saw them in the mirror. He grabbed his Hi Power and turned about the time the thug with the gun started to aim.
Over 16 rounds were fired in the shop, no one was hit. The barber chased the 2 thugs outside and kept firing till slide lock.
