Years ago I read of similar operations when the Brits were in India, Pakistan or Afghanistan.

They reported that the tribesmen were ripping up the railroad rails for steel and turning them into excellent copies of Martinis or Lee Enfields. Fired bullets were salvaged, the rifling filed off, and reloaded. Dunno what they used for primers, but in the later years, camera or movie film were chopped up and used for powder. One officer reported the gunfights with this ammo was “quite spectacular”.

Yes, beyond them in terms of unavailability.......They're making these firearms not for world distribution but rather for domestic use either by the Pakistanis to be used against the Taliban or by the Taliban against the Pakistanis..........

That's why the area is considered to be one of the most dangerous places on the planet.......

Dara, that was the name of the place! Thanks! I checked out the video too -- looks like the same place and a lot of the same activity and need for caution, too. Palin was no doubt traveling with a pretty sizable BBC production crew -- I wonder how I would fare over there, haha. And as I recall, even Palin had a bit of trouble with Maoist guerrillas in Nepal.
