Jackie’s Rape Narrative Gets A Dose Of Reality

The UVA rape story peddled by Rolling Stone has fallen apart. This is what happens when advocacy journalism pushes narratives rather than actual news. The feminist narrative these days is that we live in a country that hates women and ignores their violent rape. In order to fight back against a society that hates women, feminists have to make up stories about rape to confront society with. One wonders why, in a nation that hates women and doesn’t care about their violent rape, the left would bother making up stories when actual stories of violent rape must be so plentiful. The answer is pretty simple, especially when it comes to college campuses. Actual violent rape is rare, which is why the feminists are trying to expand the definition of rape to include all forms of sexual assault, including unwanted kisses.

Is there anyone out there who wasn’t outraged by the details of the tale told by Jackie? Jackie alleged a violent gang rape at a Frat house. When reading the details, no one thought to themselves boys will be boys. Instead, just about everyone reading it wanted the men prosecuted for rape. Of course there will be no prosecution because Jackie didn’t go to the police, she didn’t even go to the hospital. Her female friend encouraged her not to report the rape because it might destroy her opportunity to be invited to other parties in which she and other women might be subject to a gang rape. The story shifted from one where any reasonable person would be outraged to one that is entirely unbelievable within a matter of a paragraph or two. Jackie’s story is much like Lena Dunham’s college rape story, it’s not based in the slightest bit of reality but rather fits a narrative being pushed by feminists these days.

With Jackie’s story unraveling (and to a lesser extend Dunham’s) the feminists now tell us that we should believe rape stories no matter what. To not believe women is to hate them. For the men who are falsely accused and lose their job, their career, their families and their Facebook friends, that’s just collateral damage because to not believe women is to hate them. This is really what feminists believe in America today, that we are a land of people who simply hate women and either support their rape or are indifferent to it. In reality, violent rapes are down substantially over the last half century according to FBI statistics. Most people support strong criminal penalties for rapists. Of course, to get to the point where strong penalties are issued women have to go to the police and have their case prosecuted. Telling us a story about rape years later isn’t going to result in a prosecution, most if not all of the necessary evidence will have been lost.

According to the feminists, everyone believed Jackie’s story because everyone knows that brutal gang rapes happen on campus on a regular basis. When the left tells a lie often enough people believe it to be the truth. There is zero evidence that 20% of women on college campuses are raped. That statistics is the result of a skewed and biased sample. Now that the 20% statistic has become “fact” women claim to be certain that 20% of their friends have been raped. Few can even name one but their certain the rapes have happened and that women are afraid to talk about it. The narrative trumps reality. In fact, if 20% of women on college campuses are rape victims universities such as UVA are more dangerous for women than the most dangerous ghettos in New York, Los Angeles or Chicago. No parent in their right mind would send their daughter to such a place.

In the case of Jackie (and Lena Dunham) reality ended up trumping the narrative. Jackie’s story defied logic. It made no sense and the facts as she presented them were false. The frat in question didn’t even have a party the night she alleged the rape occurred. Jackie appears to have made up a rape story and peddled it to a Rolling Stone reporter who wanted to push the narrative that rape in college was common. The entire point was to attack male dominated organizations such as frat houses and football teams. Facts don’t matter when a narrative is being pushed and Jackie’s story fit the narrative perfectly. That her story had massive holes in it didn’t matter, it pushed the feminist narrative that American culture hates women and looks the other way when gang rapes occur. The fact though is that Americans, male and female, want gang rapists tried and convicted. The problem of course is that Jackie wasn’t gang raped and because her story is so demonstrably false people are going to think twice before they believe the next feminist who cries rape.

To not believe women is to hate them.

Correction: To not believe women liars is to hate dismiss them. Integrity is brittle and once broken, it is very difficult, many times - utterly impossible to re-establish any fragment of integrity.

In other words, every fraternity on UVA's campus is still suspended and the entire university is still under internal investigation despite the fact that the reason for these extreme measures turns out to have been a hoax by a liar.

Rather than being outraged by the incompetence of the media alone, we need to find out why thousands of innocent people are being inconvenienced and investigated for no good reason.

What is wrong with UVA's culture that a liar can change the lives of everyone on campus for the worse?

What's worng is it's run by wannabe commies. This is their bread and butter tactic, divide and conquer. Why isn't anyone asking why the president of the college did not base her actions on a campus police investigation? All she needed was an article in a newspaper and whammo...revenge to all those rich white boys...er...white hisanics!

It’s not just UVAs culture: there’s an overall culture of fear at just about ALL US universities over getting hit with a story like this. There’s an instinct to immediately overreact.

In fact, the author of the article was deliberately provoking UVA to overreact. To me the key part in her story is how she acknowleges deliberately targeting UVA because, unlike other schools, it lacked a radical feminist movement.

THAT is why she went after UVA: to make an example of it, l’encourages les autres, and to instill overreaction-provoking fear in OTHER schools.

Keep in mind that the source, author (who we haven’t heard from) and RS (who we have) aren’t really upset about what happened, they’re upset that they got caught.

I agree. This sort of stuff is being pushed by the Obama administration. If the Feds decide a school failed to probably investigate a rape allegation, then the Feds come in and create problems for everyone. Schools are fearful of the public scrutiny they’ll get, largely from the Federal government and their lapdogs in the media to say nothing of the Feds threatening to cut off money.

This is a large left-wing narrative being pushed by the Obama administration, radical feminists and the left-wing press. They’re creating a narrative out of nothing. There isn’t a rape problem on college campuses. There may be a drinking problem on these campuses, there may be a whores remorse problem that is directly connected to the drinking problem. Rather than focusing on the actual problems (excessive drinking and lack of sexual morality) the left is creating a rape narrative with no evidence.

What’s especially amusing is the crackdown on Fraternities and Sororities at UVA is by Administrative fiat.

The University of Virginia is a STATE institution, and as such, is required to conduct due process. They have not done so.

I rather expect the author of the hit piece, Rolling Stone magazine, the University of Virginia, and the President of UVA to **ALL** face civil actions over this. . . and they’ll end up paying, big. . .
