Fort Hood Shooting Victims Will AT LAST Receive Purple Hearts

Five years after the Fort Hood shootings, Congress is set to make the victims of the shooting eligible to receive Purple Hearts. This benefit and honor had previously been denied them by an Obama administration which insisted that the Islamic, terrorist act was actually workplace violence. The provision states that “Purple Heart medals will be awarded to ‘members of the armed forces killed or wounded in domestic attacks inspired by foreign terrorist organizations.’ The provision is included in the 2015 defense bill which is likely to pass the House this week prior to being considered by the Senate next week. The Muslim, White House resident has threatened to veto the bill on other subjects. But it is the Fort Hood issue that is most disturbing to the former Madrasa Student.

It was House Republicans, working with the Senate Armed Services Committee, who introduced the provision into the defense authorization bill which would grant battlefield recognition to victims of terrorism on U.S. Soil. The bill makes any service member killed or wounded by terrorists eligible for both the medal and the benefits afforded to recipients. For the victims recuperating from injuries and loss of time costing them tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills, the bill would be a windfall, permitting them to receive priority care at VA Hospitals and waived medical copays.

House Republicans have included Purple Heart changes in annual defense budget bills each of the last five years, only to be blocked by Pentagon and Senate leaders

"Defense Secretaries Robert Gates, Leon Panetta and Chuck Hagel have stuck to the original assessment that the attack by Army psychiatrist Maj. Nidal Hasan was an act of workplace violence."

I am sorry, but I don't like it!

Being a victim of a terrorist attack isn't the same as being wounded in combat.

We are diluting the significance of the medal.

“”Thank God that sometimes it does make a difference who runs Congress””

Hasn’t changed a thing yet...this is good news but it probably won’t pass this Senate. Can they hold it until the next senate is sworn in? I didn’t know it had been written in other laws for the past five years.

Let’s see our terrorist sympathizer president veto this!

He will.

We are not dealing with traditional combatants anymore...Not so long ago Hasan would of been executed for treason. He sided with the enemy and by his own actions became an enemy combatant.

It’s good to see this, but Congress should repeal DoD Directive 5210.56.

It is criminal to disarm our military and defense workers on bases. I have no problem securing my weapon in my car, but having to leave it home every day is unreasonable, given the random nature of the threat we face.

Agree with ya......Sidearms should be issued in basic an allowed concealed carry when out of uniform until enlistment is up. If retired, service sidearm is a gift with lifetime credentials for carry.

They do such for police ....why not our military ?

I was lucky to be in a unit that allowed me to keep my sidearm 24/7 in or out of uniform, on or off base. Retired in 96. Do not recommend the military to young men and women when assholes are in charge of this country. Suggest a career in law enforcemet as a deputy sheriff vs DOD.

My opinion....

I like your plan. Be nice to retire with a couple weapons to protect the family.

I have been in for years and have kids in now. Work DoD civilian and still in the Reserve. I thought I saw the worst with Clinton, but I ain’t giving up. There has to be some decent people who stay.

This reg was published under Bush I. It needs to be rescinded.
