I think the philosophy in NFL is fundamentally flawed.

Agree with you, and many points in that blog. Particularly:
“NFL films does not actually make this footage available, and most of what it shows are such extreme close-ups that it is impenetrable from a strategy perspective.”

The NFL, a lot of the college game, I have found to be almost UNWATCHABLE because of the camera angles and close-ups. When I want to see how a guy gets up from a slobberknocking tackle - o no! - I get to see some player’s sweaty face. It’s infuriating.

Now, it might be that blogger’s opinion: that the-powers-that-be want to keep their strategies secret...that’s almost more pleasant to consider than what I believe:
Consider who is in the director’s chair, calling for those close-ups.
Are they football-types, do you think?...or theater-types?
Yah...and just *who* do you think populates the theater departments? See where I’m going here? Yah, the *types* who LIKE seeing such close-ups.
(sorry to bring that idea to you - it’s disgusting, but...like I said, almost unwatchable)

I like to follow those offenses that are NOT ‘fundamentally flawed’, like the Triple Option that Ga. Tech and all of the Service Academies run ( got to see Navy against TX State down in San Marcos, and even being there, I STILL had trouble following the ball. I love that!) - it beats the heck out of watching Brady standing around like a dang statue, throwing dink and dunk stuff all night...

You might enjoy this guy’s blog:

He’s been teaching the Double Wing for many years, and talk about thinking out-of-the-box, there it is!
One of his coaches, Pete Porcelli, won a few semi-pro championships with the DW (up in New York state area IIRC)
I found a HS team that uses it close to me, you maybe could find one close by to you - it’s fun to watch, and even more fun to sit near the opposition parents, and listen to them ask each other; “What the heck is THAT?” lol!

BTW, almost everyone is wrong about where the Wildcat got started:

I’m surprised and disappointed that RG is getting the ‘arrogant’-label. I thought he was a ‘character guy’, with his folks providing the Army discipline & all. Thought he had a more down-to-earth quality. What do I know?
:shrugs:
