A number of high profile TV news anchors quietly met with Ferguson, Missouri police officer Darren Wilson in hopes of securing an interview with him, CNN's Brian Stelter reported Sunday.
Wilson fatally shot Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, in August, sparking months of protests. A grand jury in the St. Louis suburb is currently deliberating whether to indict Wilson over Brown's death, and is expected to issue a decision in the near future.
Wilson has not given any interviews since the August shooting, and has not publicly commented on Brown's death.
According to Stelter, the anchors who held off-the-record meetings with Wilson in hopes of booking his first interview include ABC's George Stephanopoulos, CBS' Scott Pelley, CNN's Anderson Cooper and Don Lemon, and NBC's Matt Lauer.
Cooper and Lemon confirmed the report in a series of tweets Sunday...

I make my living off the evening news
Just give me something
Something I can use
People love it when you lose
They love dirty laundry
Well, I coulda been an actor
But I wound up here
I just have to look good
I don't have to be clear
Come and whisper in my ear
Give us dirty laundry
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em all around
We got the bubble headed
Bleached blonde
Comes on at five
She can tell you 'bout the plane crash
With a gleam in her eye
It's interesting when people die
Give us dirty laundry
Can we film the operation
Is the head dead yet
You know the boys in the newsroom
Got a running bet
Get the widow on the set
We need dirty laundry
[Instrumental Interlude]
You don't really need to find out
What's going on
You don't really want to know
Just how far it's gone
Just leave well enough alone
Eat your dirty laundry
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're stiff
Kick 'em all around
(Kick 'em when they're up)
(Kick 'em when they're down)
(Kick 'em when they're up)
(Kick 'em when they're down)
(Kick 'em when they're up)
(Kick 'em when they're down)
(Kick 'em when they're stiff)
(Kick 'em all around)
Dirty little secrets
Dirty little lies
We got our dirty little fingers
In everybody's pie
We love to cut you down to size
We love dirty laundry
We can do the Innuendo
We can dance and sing
When it's said and done
We haven't told you a thing
We all know that Crap is King
Give us dirty laundry
This is awful.
He’d be crazy to go on any of those.
Every time an efftard writes "unarmed" in describing this charging, out-of-control, massive thug, they should be curb stomped.
He won’t be indicted and then go on Fox.
Coordinated effort to make it seem as if Wilson willing met with these jack ass liars.
They likely were just doing their job and while accosting him, he refused an interview.
They are painting him as if he wants to talk.
A-holes.
Journolisted again...
Why in the world would he talk to the same media that has tried and convicted him with his reporting. He should tell them to pound sand and get a publisher to pay him big bucks to write a book or do an exclusive story on what he has been through with the media and the thugs .
My thoughts exactly.
Seriously would any of us here on FR ever consent to an interview with any of these leftists about anything?
And still George Zimmerman is unemployed.
Probably the ONLY person i would think to be both honorable and skilled interviewer, would be Greta Van Sustern. She doesn’t lib softballs, but she really does stay “neutral” for the most part.
Don Lemon would ask something like “are you anxious to get back on the force and maybe next time shoot an Hispanic kid?”
Or Cheryl Atkinsson.
I hope someone takes Wilson aside and tells him to avoid these guys at all cost.
“Why in the world would he talk to the same media that has tried and convicted him with his reporting.”
It would be a terrible decision. At least in a criminal trial, he would have rules of evidence and a judge and defense attorney to protect him. With cameras on and a reporter hoping to be the guy who puts him in jail, the questions would be far harder and far less principled than a prosecutor could ask. The reporter’s only incentive is super-gotcha.
Everything Wilson said would then be used in the trial against him because the rules of evidence don’t apply in TV interviews.
I’m surprised he is even meeting with reporters to discuss whether an interview should be done. Every word out of his mouth is potential evidence against him.
agreed, I am also surprised his attorneys let him talk to reporters. Zimmerman almost cooked his goose talking.
“Now here’s how this works, you give us an interview and no matter what the facts are we will paint you out as a Hitler worshiping klanner. Is that understood Mr Wilson?”
My response to lemon would be: “Actually, I’m hoping to bag a reporter. I get free steak at the steakhouse if I fill the card up.”*
*flash a punchcard with punchslots.
I looked at Cooper's Twitter an hour or so ago when we saw the first report of this, and he specifically denied having met with Wilson. Now, that tweet is gone.
I smell a rat with this story.
