Im told that the public is angry at todays politicians. Eighty-two percent disapprove of the job Congress is doing. So will Tuesdays election bring a big shakeup?
No. Congressional reelection rates never drop below 85 percent.
The last big wave election was 1994, when Democrats lost control of both houses. The media called it a revolution, and the late Peter Jennings from ABC likened Americans to 2-year-olds throwing a tantrum.
Even that year, the reelection rate was 90 percent.
Matt Kibbe of the group FreedomWorks and Hadley Heath Manning of Independent Womens Forum came on my show to say they dont believe that this will be the year voters throw the bums out.
Incumbents have all sorts of built-in advantages, said Manning: Once youre in office, you have network ties, usually with a big party organization, usually with other officeholders. You have ties to donors who have helped you in your previous round of fundraising.
In the U.S., she says, we dont have kings, (but) we still have political dynasties.

The Democrats may lose a few.
Yes they may lose enough to give the GOP their largest majority since 1946, but there will still be a lot of Dems hanging around to cast their symbolic no votes on important legislation between fundraisers.
So, this tends to support the article. But, it still looks like bad news for the democrats.
My guess is that Lindsey will come out of the closet after he wins re-election.
I wonder what kind of tantrum the atheist Jennings is throwing today.
A hot one.
In 1994, the incumbents won overwhelmingly...but the Republicans won every single open seat.
NO PROBLEM......... JUST DO THE MATH. WE STILL WIN!
According to my calculations there are 36 Senate Seats up for Election this year. Eight (8) of them have NO incumbent running: MT, WV, SD, IA, GA, MI, NE and OK. That leaves 28 Seats up for Election this year WITH incumbents. So, applying Mr. Stossel’s “Rule of Thumb” i.e. 85% of incumbents hold onto their seats, 85% of the 28 Incumbent held seats is 24 Seats retained; fo sho.
Now, we have 12 Seats that we can “mathematically” win; the 8 that have no incumbent running and the 4 Incumbent seats that the “probablility” factor says we can win. So, all we have to do is win six of those 12. NO PROBLEM!!!
I pray you are right!
Lindsey Graham?? I thought he was openly gay for years.
I see GOP + 10-15
Agree.
