I hear you. The nuns were the best thing that happened to me in grade school. Nuns made me study & excel under threat of a good butt-kicking.

I know the real reason you obey those nuns, you didn't want to end up like that guy on the cross.(sarcasm)

On tv you see many many killings with the shooter being ‘cool’. I watch some family show and the commercial comes on and shows someone being killed in a new show or movie. I know this has been ongoing for decades but it would be nice if they did not have the bad guy get away with the killing and being made into some unstoppable person who knows every move of the victims and the police. There are nuts who copy them.

My point was that it is peculiar how fellow students don’t seem to ‘smell’ the mental illness among them and are subsequently horrified by the actions of one or more of them. Why is that? This was truly “homegrown” in its cultivation from the pop culture of the New Normal. Comparing this to Boston is like comparing apples to oranges.

And that is why parents need to protect their children from such serious relationships at a young age. Kids are getting pretty intense at young ages (as a freshman he can’t even drive yet!), parents around here see it as “cute” and the kids suffer. It’s like practicing marriage and divorce for years before you are an adult. They can’t process or handle it when their feelings are still intense and the boyfriend/girlfriend’s just aren’t anymore.

I am so with you! I don’t think that kids should be in romantic relationships because with hormones, media, social pressure, and casual acceptance, they are not emotionally ready to make level-headed decisions that are good for them and their future.

You are so right that every break-up is like a little death. Let’s spare kids that trauma. A first love should be a sweet love, and that can be better handled with a buffer of distance and total restraint.

Northstar Mom we should put in the hands and viewing, chaste love, love with the intention to have a lasting bond through the sacrament of marriage.

I watch Korean dramas because I find traditional courtship so inspirational. When I used to have time on Polyvore, I wrote very short stories to accompany my fashion sets, that told of boys who were gentlemen and girls who were ladies. And they were very popular!

Thank-you for bringing up this valuable adjunct topic. Maybe we should start another thread to explore it more.

All the best to you and your, NSM, and God Bless you.

“It’s like practicing marriage and divorce for years before you are an adult.”

I dunno, Jr. High and H.S. in the ‘70’s involved learning about love, friendship, sex and not getting married or not getting married just yet. In elementary school in the ‘60’s, we got married on the playground in pretend ceremonies that were sealed with a kiss and the ‘marriages’ usually only lasted a day or two. There were no ‘divorces’, only the next playground marriage.

Kids in Jr. High and High School these days are really f*cking up if they’re actually “practicing marriage and divorce”.
