Elected office, to a Democrat, is considered a “graft license”.
Yeah, they think they deserve whatever they can snatch because they "do so much good."
They also think they're special, and that the rules "ordinary people" have to follow don't apply to them.
A third factor is that they think that the things they want for themselves are somehow good for everyone.
They simply "feel" these things. There's no logic involved, and you can't talk them out of it or even discuss it with them.
