if Seattle imposes a $15 minimum, it will follow in the footsteps of Detroit. Businesses will flee and others will look elsewhere. There will be fewer businesses and less employment. Those who are beating the drum of the $15 minimum, are dupes to a manipulative mind game played out by the unions. The unions are expecting to benefit from a wage increase if it passes.

Those hoping to benefit from increases wages will discover that increases in the cost of living will eat up their gains and find their hours cut and their jobs gone. Their reward for pushing the anti-free market screed will be the spinning in the wind of unemployment.

The unions have evolved into exploitative shake down racketeers who oppose Capitalism and embrace Marxism. Their use for working Americans has long gone and they operate on a past success which reestablished the value of the human element when automation took manufacturing away from the value of the human element. That past success would have happened without the unions and has no relevance in today’s working environment where the information age puts employers in a competitive market for workers. That past success is used to pump up union importance when their only purpose is to exploit the public and line their pockets with union dues.

Probably pretty soon, a twenty dollar minimum wage won’t even be a ripple when the inflation that is already loaded into the system is directed away from a collapsing stock market.

Exactly!

Right out of college, in WA state, a friend hired me to be his research asst for one of these 'non profits'. We spent all our time trying to dig up dirt on republicans regarding political contributions. I thought it was the height of hypocrisy even back then. Those were my last days on the road of idiot liberal.

Then I got a real job and started making some coin and noticed the more I made the more the government took from me. I began to have a serious change of heart especially when all my liberal friends didn't go anywhere and were harassing on all my new friends with real jobs calling them Capitalists! like it was a swear word.

These old liberal acquaintances either worked for one of these liberal orgs and lived with mama or they stayed poor and brain washed working for the socialists or even commies. What a sad joke.

Minimum wage should be $3000 an hour. Then we could all be rich.

Otherwise, it’s only a matter of time before this fabled “beacon of hope”, this last bastion of individual and economic freedom, slowly drowns beneath the dead weight of its own complacency, excuses, and entitlement politics

I agree with all of that except......

I do not believe that there is a "Otherwise".

I think that ship sailed.

Re: “Soldiers facing death daily on the front lines don’t command $20/hour...”

I think the author might be mistaken about that.

The lowest paid soldier gets $18,400 per year in pay.

Plus - free room and board, possibly an enlistment bonus, possibly other bonuses once on active duty, possibly combat pay, and a clothing allowance.

Plus - possibly the best benefits package in America for health care, retirement pay, and education benefits.

Plus - quite often free training in very valuable civilian skills.

Heh. I lived in that town for 20 plus years ... moved there in ‘78, left in ‘03.

I remember when one could take Rody Drive and pass one or two cars - and know who was driving; when you could take a daylight pee on the street and no one would see you; when moving involved throwing stuff out the second floor window of an apt on Water St to the pick up below; when the paper mill, logging, and commercial fishing were the town’s economic mainstays.

Then Socialist took the Capital and the Californians moved in ... the slow descent into nuttery, higher prices, and the open hatred of fisherman began.

Did some computer work for Abundant Life NP back in the 80s, before it had a Board.

Now has the town fallen into economic dependance, but had become a tourist mecca - it is a very beautiful place to live, but that was its downfall, I think. All the trust fund babies found it a ideal place to get a start on nuttery, which attracted more nuts, some not so harmless.

Hard to beat the view on a nice clear day driving into town as one crests the hill.

The town, the county and the only newspaper are now completely controlled by a far left progressive faction centered in the Unitarian church. Elections are run by the church and only leftist democrats even dare run for office. They control every office from school boards to County Commissioners.

In the current campaign for sheriff one democrat is slinging mud at the other democrat by saying he once registered as a republican when he lived in California 30 years ago. The town is pretty, but there is a nasty undercurrent that can be felt if you walk down the street or go in some place. Liberals seem to sense someone who is not one of them and they make it known.

I almost bought a house out in Chinicum ... glad I did not. Feel sorry for the friends that still live there.

The liberals in Port Townsend who control county politics have passed a smart growth ordinance limiting the entire future build out of residential homes in rural "watershed" to 108. The properties in the valley are normally 5 acres or more, but one of the regulations is that they can have no outside water use, no hose bibs on the exterior of the house.

Oh good lord - the Seattle FarSiders have taken over - how soon do they plan to turn all lights out county-wide at 10 PM so they can see the stars? That was proposed in the 90s by CA loons, when they were oh so impressed by a shoe salesman (Al Bundy could only smile) who had sold his home in VA for 400K.

"Oh good lord - the Seattle FarSiders have taken over..."

You got that right. When we had the hearings about the watershed rules and the shoreline program the venues were flooded with people from Seattle and Olympia who are obsessed with making rules for others to live by.
