Iraq Did Have Old Chemical Weapons

The New York Times reports that for more than a decade, American forces discovered and in several cases were injured by Chemical Weapons that were hidden or abandoned in Iraq years earlier. These Unmarked chemical weapons had been intermixed with conventional weapons in order to hide them from weapon inspectors. Not knowing the true nature of the unmarked ordnance made them an additional hazard, both as improvised explosive devices (IED) and for the explosive ordinance devices (EOD), to the personal sent to neutralize them.

Since the beginning of Iraqi Freedom, allied encounters with chemical weapons were kept secret and not shared with congress, the American people or allied military forces within Iraq. Withholding information concerning chemical weapon discoveries meant troops and EOD professionals could not receive proper information or medical care. After all, if weapons did not officially exist, the military could hardly be expected to recognize or treat injuries from exposure. A New York Times article includes a link to a heavily redacted intelligence documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act. Given the publication of the Times article, the Department of Defense will have to acknowledge chemical weapons found in Iraq and provide medical care for victims.

Exactly, it was reported, I think only by Rush that we found something like 500 along with a centrifuge for enrichment of uranium. That was buried under a scientist's rose garden. Another scientist turned in a vial of botulism that he didn't want in his refrigerator anymore.

Also they had 14 months to hide the stuff or get it out of the country while we were playing games with the UN.

If Rove made this call, then he should be HUNG! By not revealing this information when it became available, the GOP allowed the narrative to change COMPLETELY from we are searching for WMD’s and fulfillment of the UN resolutions, to we are seeking new, nuclear based WMD’s! This is what the MSM has convince the low-info voters!

Bush and Powell did express concerns that Hussein was attempting to create more and nuclear based WMD’s, but during the UN speech, there was also ample discussion of Hussein’s continued defiance of UN resolutions and continued use of force against US aircraft, etc...

Because the GOP ignored and refused to rebut the initial claims, the NYT and other MSM are able to publish this drivel and excuse it as, but these are not the WMD’s we were looking for. THAT IS HORSE-HOCKEY!

We were looking for any and ALL WMD’s - the ones Hussein said he had destroyed (THESE ONES), the ones that Hussein refused to allow the UN inspectors to see (THESE ONES), the ones that he was selling to any and every anti-American jihad group that could afford his prices, the yellow-cake that WAS found, etc...! THOSE WMD’s are the ones that America said they were seeking in the run-up to the war! Because the GOP did not refute the lies and distortions, the media today can LIE with a straight face and claim that Bush was only looking for new, nuclear weapons.

This completely, undoubtedly, and WHOLE-HEARTEDLY shows that Bush, Cheney, Powell, and the world’s intelligence agencies were right about MANY things, even though they were wrong on other topics. This information exonerates Bush from all the BS “Bush lied, People died!” crap! And it should have been SHOUTED from the mountain tops as soon as a single gram of WMD material was found!

As said above it was reported here and there as some were found. They also put out the message that these were deteriorated and harmless. They said you have more poisoness things in you kitchen. IMHO that was all hogwash.

It has been reported that Karl Rove was the one behind the decision to not advertise it if you will. Rove is a disgrace.

500 tons sounds like allot and yes it is; but this is yellow cake; needs lots of refinement to be useable for anything. Basically it is ore. I don’t know the ratio but the vast majority of it is waste product. Not that this would not make enough for more nukes than we’d want any nut case to have under his control....

But as to the theme of the story here, even if Bush would have told the world; would minitrue have reported it or covered it up?
