Republicans are conflating crises as if there's an ISIS terrorist with Ebola at the Border. Lowry and Shrum debate if hitting-the-panic button can work in November and if Dems can counter with good economic news and GOP voter obstruction. Then: Is Panetta patriotic or betraying?
On The Politics of Ebola. Its life imitating art, seemingly ripped from identical scenes in Outbreak, Contagion and the conclusion of Planet of the Apes, except Gwyneth Paltrow doesn't act as if she's dying -- though tens of thousands of West Africans, at a minimum, actually will.
Based on the news axiom "if-it-bleeds-it-leads" and the cerebral amygdala's acute sensitivity to fear, Bob Shrum and Rich Lowry discuss how the rise of Ebola and ISIS are merging into a national campaign theme of "Be Very Afraid." Will two cases of Ebola in the U.S. and two be-headings abroad kidnap our politics?
Both think they may.
They agree that the U.S. is trying to respond quickly to this sudden epidemic by moving medical personnel and critical supplies to West Africa, as well as 4000 troops for construction of medical facilities, and also providing screening at five major American airports.
But.
Bob a) says the key issue is less what happens in the U.S. than "containing it in West Africa" before it spreads worldwide; and b) complains that Senate Republicans are blocking the shift of a billion dollars from the DoD to West Africa because they care more about border security.

True ebola numbers will be released after the election, until then there is nothing to worry about. Frieden is doing a great Brownie job.
ISIS is JV and on the run.
The economy is pumping.
Republicans hate all non-whites.
Did I miss anything?
Did I miss anything?
Michael Brown was going to be a doctor, scientist(would have found cure for Obola), was working on his GED and is supporting his baby mommas by robbing hosnest merchants.
“is” should be “was”
The sound of libtard heads exploding on Election Day will be music to my ears.
Ebola’s not a real threat and Benghazi was a spontaneous event arising as a result of a you tube video. Right. Got it.
But it will be pretty short song once the reality of the RINOcrat agenda sinks in.
Republicans: Immigration reform is more likely to happen if we take the Senate.
And even now the Republican leadership is lowering expectations about what they'll do if they take the Senate in 2014.
And then theres John McCain saying what will happen if the Republicans win the Senate: I will work very hard to go back to 60 votes, said Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who boldly predicts a Republican Senate would process Obamas nominees more rapidly than [Democrats] do today.
And as for the House: John Boehner: Very Few Republicans Will Oppose Me
Never let a good crisis go to waste!
Is there NO cause for optimism on FR?
I’m so tired of all the gloom and doom.
I am too. I think we live in perilous times, and I am stunned and saddened about it.
My only hope (not much of one, actually) is that Conservatives will join together to take down the RINOcrats once and for all.
Even a Democrat Senate for two more years -- as awful as that prospect is -- is preferable for two years of Republican leftists giving the Democrats cover by implementing their own leftist agenda.
A vote for a Democrat is a vote to spread Ebola in America.
Is the author, Mark Green, the dedicated Commie who was infesting New York City with his ugly agenda for all those years?
I sure trust whatever he has to say about (fill in the blank here)...
Obstruction? Let's talk about the 350+ bills passed by the House sitting on Harry Reid's desk that he refuses to bring up for a vote in the Senate. There's your obstruction. Congress needs a suppository to get things moving and it can be inserted right there with Mr. Reid...
Bad news Huff PO. The people are not worried about a cure for Africa but they want to be isolated from the threat. Woe be to the Democrats is a case that sneaks in over the southern border.
