“150,000 for a souped up UTV?”

My company built a box the size of six stacked cigarette packs in a half inch thick housing that contained a relay and about six resistors and charged the Army $35,000 for it. Mostly, the expense is the customer’s fault. They demand sometimes ludicrous testing. There was, for example, no reason for the inordinately thick case. It wasn’t mounted in an area subject to shock waves and if ordinance exploded in the tank and killed the crew the fact that the box survived would not be relevant. Yes, you could pressure wash the inside and still use the tank, but there were a dozen better and cheaper ways to have done this. (Also, cost saving suggestions were actively discouraged by the company and there was no system in place to collect or evaluate them.)
