We're now in the express lane to destruction. Just like every other nation that ever stuck its fingers in God's eye.

That’s it pretty much, in my opinion. Many have been conditioned to think the state defines marriage. So marriage became a mere state contract that could be broken and resumed between any parties that the state deems acceptable. How it determines what is acceptable is whatever judges, pols, or the majority think is acceptable at any one time. That’s it, that’s the only way for the state to determine how it will define marriage for itself, at least in the modern era.
