I am in the process of refreshing my canned foods so I am trying to eat all my older stuff, skipping the outliers like 2003 and 2004 foods, here are some best by dates on the regular products that I am currently eating that are all perfect.

Blackeye peas July, 2008.

Mixed vegetables March, 2010.

Green beans July, 2010.

Tomato sauce March, 2010.

Albacore tuna, January, 2011.

Corned beef January, 2008.

This is my normal treatment for these kind of things, although I live in a hot climate I have learned that for most canned goods, a few years past the “best by date” doesn’t matter in any way.

Are you a farm girl? Most of the things the author wrote just come with the territory of being born and raised on a working farm, especially dairy or meat-raising type. That may be rarer now than it was 50 years ago, though.

That matches up with our experience, although our climates differ. Everything gets stored inside the house at stable temps. Most of it will be good for a decade or more I expect.

No, I’m not. Not large, anyway. Growing up, my neighbors had a number of chickens, a few sheep and the other one had horses. My experience was limited to taking care of the animals when they were away. No dairy farm or butchering experience.

May I suggest APMEX.com.

Gold and Silver at reasonable prices. Began purchasing 1, 2, 2.5 gram gold bars and 1/20th oz gold coins from Australia and Canada. Also 1oz silver bars.

Folks, America is in big big financial trouble. Do yourself a favor...put a lil gold and silver away for a rainy day.

It's really very do-able on a small budget.

“Total outlay, less than ten bucks. Don’t cry ‘poor’ to me.”

What? No smokes, ammo, chocolate or liquor? ;)

I liked the article.

As I see it, how she became a single mom isn’t germane to the narrative.

However she arrived in her present circumstance, it sounds as if she has formulated a good life plan and is focused on learning needed skills and becoming as self reliant as possible.

Some of her specific choices or priorities might not be what others would choose but if they work for her that is what matters.

You’re giving a wonderful example of resourcefulness for your children. You’re doing exactly what God wants you to do (Prov. 31, Titus 2). Keep it up!

I don’t drink but I have a stash of liquor. Other than drinking it, it will have all sorts of uses.
