Nope. I’m not even sure they have to be legal residents.

Serve in the military and your five year wait for citizenship is turned into three.

Could be now. Didn't use to be.

I had a friend in college whose dad was a retired Sergeant Major in the United Stated Army, but still a British Citizen. He emigrated back in the 50s, and got drafted. His choice was to spend two years in our Army, or go home and get drafted into the British Army, and the US Army paid more. He wound up making a career out of.

Yeah, and US law also requires enlistees NOT be pickle kissers...well, we see what odumbo did to that in 2011.
