I wouldn't call it Common Sense Phobic as much as childish hyper-emotionalism. They always let their emotions overrule whatever common sense they retain, which doesn't seem to be much, if they ever acquired any at all.
When you strip away the poses and the practiced false empathy, they are simply fascists.
