I have noticed that various unnamed “financial gurus” have been talking down this referendum as being “foolish” because of all the various loose financial ends left by severing ties with England. That attitude 260 years ago wouldn’t have been helpful.

Alex Salmond has claimed on a whistle stop tour of his constituency that 99 per cent of Scotland will be “perfectly happy” with the outcome of the referendum, whatever it is.

Those same people were mouthing many of the same things back during the Quebec independence referendum in 1995.
